Went south for the winter

HA! Now that's funny right there. I don't care who you are. Yea Richard snow is a paculiar animal.

I was born, raised and learned to drive in Montana and now live in western Colorado and drive dedicated out here. So I am familiar with snow. The first thing I was taught was respect the conditions you are driving in. Nothing should happen fast in snow and ice. We who drive In snow on a regular basis are bound to make a little less in the winter but the beauty of the country I drive in more than makes up for it for this driver! The Rocky Mts in any season are always awe inspiring to me and I have lived here most all my life (I'm pushing 60).

Enjoy your time in the shad fields but don't forget to come up north once in awhile.

Tho I did enjoy a trip to West "By God" Texas now and then when I was otr. I think I was called Honey, Darlin or Sweety more in one day than in my entire life. Super people down there. and the food wasn't bad either.

Be safe. Bart

Best trucking companies to drive for??

We'll that escalated quickly. I don't post much but this thread really grabbed me from the start. I have been with Swift for 10 months now, my first trucking job. I have grossed over 38,000 with bonuses pro pay etc. I have ran all 48 then went to the western 11. Now I am on a walmart dedicated grocery fleet. I could not ask for a better gig. Averaging 2600-3200 per week plus stop pay. I delivered a load of turkey's the other day with 9 stops. I think I made more going backwards that day! My home is part of our territory so when I want to reset I just ask for a load to my local wallyworld and reset at home. Swift has been nothing short of fantastic for this driver. I have a great truck (2014 Volvo) that I have not had a nickles worth of trouble with. Not particularly crazy about my dm but when I was otr I mostly dealt with the planners for my loads The walmart drivers here are VERY happy with thier jobs. These guys are pampered as Walmart drivers. I would love to drive for them. I just don't have the requisite number of years yet. I take a lot of grief working for Swift from other drivers and I just let it roll off my back . But my paycheck is in the bank every Tuesday and not one of them has bounced. Swift is a great co. To drive for IMHO.

OK maybe not so humble.

From 70 to 82 hours per week?

My understanding of it is it takes away the 2 periods of 1 am to 5 am requirement, tho I happy about this small rider in a huge omnibus package there is a lot of bad stuff in this bill.

Girlfriends and wives help me feel better

double-quotes-start.png

When I was OTR my wife used an app that I believe was called find my friends. Throughout the day she would pull it up and see where I was at that time. It may sound silly but it really helped her a lot.

Great idea! In fact....we already have that:

Trucker Tracker

....right now it shows you're on I-70 near the Illinois/Indiana line

Every time you post here in the forum it updates your position.

Swift Vs. Knight Transportation? Who To Choose!?

I won't say I never talk while driving. But it is always hands free. I don't care where I am when my daughter calls me Dad answers. And sometimes the road is so long and tedious that I will call the wife just to help remind me of why I am doing this and to hear their voices. But as I said when an incoming call is from the office it goes to voice mail.

Questions about coolers

I'm not a fan of the electric coolers. They don't seem to keep things cold enough for me so I have 2 coolers. 1 large 1 smallish. Stuff I keep frozen I keep in the smaller one on dry ice tbe bigger one holds everything else. I generally buy ice every other day. Make sure you keep them clean because bacteria can build up in them and that ain't good. The more you use it the better you will get at learning how to load stack and arrange things to keep them the temperature you like.

I do a lot of cooking in my truck. It helps me relax and I eat waaay more healthy than I would otherwise.

Confused about ideling vs apu's

My volvo has a 5 min. Auto shut down but at 4 mins. It gives you a warning and you simply push in the clutch and it overides it. According to our safety dept. If you are logged in sleeper berth they can't say anything about your idle time given that it is either too hot or too cold for you to get adequate rest to drive safely. A well rested driver is a safer driver is the reasoning.
