Parking at a truck stop, back in or nose in?

Well just my opinion but the truck stop for a new driver is sort of the first hurdle if your new i say you gotta back it in at least at the stop they have lines on the road you can usually find a spot 2 trucks wide and your reward is food bathroom shower....but if your new tired or just dont want the drama I suggest not parking in the truck stop unless you plan to back in because nose in unless you know what your doing creates a hazard and not every driver is smart enough to avoid a hazard some would simply rather not have to avoid it just advise dont park in a wmart parklot or gas station if you've done it you'll understand what i mean good luck

From eloggs and w-2... to 1099 and paper...

I agree with you 1099 is scary but I need hometime for the family and decent pay so somthing dedicated is ideal but trying to find something dedicated with w-2 less than 2yrs xp and a less than perfect h6 in my location (good ole nor cal) is ruff unless I want to haul flatbeds for percentage or somthing AG but im leading towards a career driver so I'm trying to stay in front of a 53ft min either reefer dry van. tomorrow we are supposed to complete everything paperwork wise... guess i wont know how good they are until pay day smile.gif as a trucker i always use a good tax guy tho

From eloggs and w-2... to 1099 and paper...

hello everyone, I havent really posted on here since I was really new and green...and well ignorant. Now I have a better understanding of the basics at least yet still very ignorant of the industry. I've been solo driving for over a year. I found a good company w/eloggs and w-2 good pay but they almost shut down during the winter so I've found an OTR company to run regional with the problem is they are a very small private company maybe 20 trucks they use paper loggs and 1099 ... since the busy season is ending they are allowing me to leave and return if needed. assuming they dont get a sudden rush of loads. with this new company what kinds of things should I get in writing? any sugg? things to be aware of? so far all I can come up with is having them sign a paper with my pay loaded detent brkdowns ..confirming no out of pocket expenses for truck gas tolls scale permits lumper fees if covered honestly I dont know if that is even a good idea please help ty im open to any suggestions

Don't worry! sounds like you on your way to a great career! Just protect yourself out there... drop and hook dont forget to "pretrip your new trailer everytime!" nobody mentioned that at its only the most important step.. If you get halfway down the road and a door falls off UHH O also i open secure/latch and close the doors just to make sure the chains are there and working sucks if you drive far only to realize your door has no chain to hold it in place ...anyway....whatever system you use just make sure its the same every time i use a series of steps if i havent counted to 5th step i missed somthing Best of luck to you BE safe and Welcome to the greatest job a man can have

DOT Drug Testing: Urinalysis or Hair Follicle?

double-quotes-start.png

I found out today that Con-Way does the follicle test.

double-quotes-end.png

I think more companies are starting to go to this due to insurance reasons. Let's hope so.

less insurance cost is more money for us.... your right if your not prepared for trucking then your not prepared Hint #1 for new drivers is no drugs (shakes head) but i am a hipocrite i had a serious foot injury a few years back and about a month before i went to truck school i was tossing out my old pill bottles and saw 2 vicodin and said to myself well im not even in school yet WTH.. GULP...now i just got my cdl with all endorsments and those two vicodin keep ringing in my head I got a major refer hair testing company next week best potential job of my life...goshdammit what a fool!! 2 vicodin in maybe 3 years and no other drugs no even smokes or beer but i will prolly fail right?
