Electronic Logs VS. Paper Logs

E logs are much more simple to use when it comes to logging driving time. There also down to the min or 5 min depending on your company specs. There are lots of fees associated with the elogs from the hard wear and soft wear to the monthly fees. They are by no means cheat proof. They also cut down on personal for log auding in large companies. They are also not compliment with what Congress ordered.

Paper logs much cheaper to run for a small out fit. Also easy to fudge on as well. More cost to run for a larger outfit.

The real difference between elogs and paper at this point is one kicks you on duty driving and dose not require a pen.

I shut down and ruined my service record due to fatigue!

We all have days out here were we say **** it. You just got to push thought those times and get the work done.

With that said what you said in your post sounds more like someone who suffering from depression. Then some of who is lazy, or lack of motivation. I strongly suggest if this job makes you depressed to get help.

Real Dimensions?

I would bet that the sign was for trucks 8 feet and over in with. My cab on my truck is 102 as well as my trailer there is a steel plant that I go in and out of with a bridge that is a hard left and then across a one lane bridge, we hardly fit. It's an old steel bridge. Sign says wait for traffic max with is 8.6 one truck at a time.

Air horn ettiquite

Answer to your second question. I test the air horn after I have left a truck stop/ out of the homes/ or yard. In the yard/truck stop there used for communication. So you can always do that as well.

Still broken

A ticket depends on the officer. But an air horn dose need to work. I do not believe it's a oos, inless they find more wrong then the horn. You also won't have a clean inspection.

18 Speed Shift Pattern

You shift a 18 speed the same way as a 13 speed. Just with the low end gears being spit as well. The 18 speeds are more of an off road/ heavy haul were you need to split the low end. I have only ever seen them in tow trucks and log trucks.

Do you like CAT, Cummins or other?

I think all the new motors are poor quality, between the low gear ratio and the low torque there just is a lack of power.

Cat all the way, I have driven an old freightliner cab over with a cat I don't know what kind but talk about a truck and power, it had no problem going way to fast with a 10k fuel tank on the back. Are air craft tugs also had cats in them a 50k tug we moved planes as large as 747 up hill at the airport slowly but it did the job. I have driven a few trucks with S60. But not yet a n14 with I could thought. But ya so far an old cat.
