Plane Crash Covington Georgia

Wild. I’ve been to that General Mills. The smell of fresh corn flakes is out of this world.

My paternal side had thousands of acres in rural Covington since before the Civil War. Not nearly as much now but Covington means a lot to me

Weird / Interesting Truck Stops...

There’s one I believe near lookout pass in Montana. Has a bunch of cool knick knacks, a good restaurant and a nice hotel. No damn ATT service though

And Little America obviously. Good food, lounge, and parking when I 80 is closed

Worst Interstates for truckers

Anything In South Carolina. I-95 drops to a rough 2-lane. I-26 mountain pass is fun but annoying with switchback turns the entire way. They shut one side down for construction with exit detour.

Every other interstate is has been under construction since 1872 to widen the two lanes. That’s even rougher with no shoulder for miles on end

Weird/Interesting Loads

A trailer full of port o potties.

I dropped them in a small dirt lot at this plumbing/septic company. They pushed them off onto a forklift.

I pull up taking their whole parking lot thinking what the hell. Tight squeeze

At least they were NEW

Team Trainer Thoughts

Trainers are a different breed that’s for sure. I’ll spend time helping out a new solo I run into but I’m not having strangers in the truck with me.

The trainer I had was an ass sometimes but he was a good teacher. I kept up with him for some time. He shared your sentiments about good and bad students

Gaming in a truck

I bought an Oculus Quest 2 to start with. I figured since I will literally be living in a mobile pantry with a mattress, I guess it makes sense to bring VR into the mix. It is actually pretty killer. Plus there are workout apps so you can at least try to get some blood pumping.

That said, as soon as I get some extra scratch, I will be investing heavily into a good gaming laptop and internet dongle.

I got one awhile ago and played Onward for awhile in the sleeper. I dove onto the floor once to avoid enemy fire. That hurt more than it helped.

Gaming isn’t my thing anymore. I used to be a PC gamer as a kid. Can confirm it works just fine but didn’t interest me much after driving all day. Maybe if I was OTR on recaps.

Is all load planning not planned very well or just my company?

Great points made here. I get a lot of multi stop Sam’s Club runs and Miami runs. Are they great miles, no. Are they easy as hell, mostly.

I also have done them many favors. Rescuing loads, moving trucks, transporting drivers.

I have my quirks but my DM and load planner fix things for me fast. We all email each other instead of the ELD.

Fellow weekly drivers

I agree 100% on that.

I wish I had more months like that. We have been having problems with the broker and customer. The first month I got 9600 but it’s been downhill since.

I can’t argue with the time off and dispatch are great people. Most my small terminal been in the business longer than I been alive

I usually run those same states and average 10,000 miles per month. Not dedicated and usually leave Sunday or Monday, my choice. I’m also usually home either Friday or Saturday.

Mine has worked well for the past five years, but changes may be coming. 🤔

Hang in there. I hope I’m wrong, but I suspect we’re about to see significant reductions in freight. Intentional or not, inflation will eventually (if it hasn’t already started) cause people to slow their buying and, probably, stop many from buying non-essentials.

Advice on an HOS situation, please

I only ran recap for a short time, but I’m wondering what people mean by 9.5

The 70 hour rule is over 8 days. Split it up leaves 8h 45m on duty per day.

double-quotes-start.png

Only true way to run and have recaps, is a 9.5 hour day, 10 max, saving the last for later. And your hours comeback after midnight, sure your QV shows "hours coming back in 1 day/2 days"? At CRST they always had our "Actual" pick up times, an hour or 2 earlier ( they didn't tell us that) lol

double-quotes-end.png

When I drove for knight I worked with my DM so I could drive 9.5 hours a day, It is the only way to run if you can. Once it was rolling it worked well for both of us, he didn't have to worry about me needing to do a reset and I didn't feel the need to drive until I was exhausted. What he really liked was I averaged more miles/month than about 90% of the other drivers.

Another plus to doing that is you have a cushion to find parking. If where you planned on stopping for the day is unavailable you still have time to find something else with out going into panic mode.
