Thanks everyone for your replies and insight! It makes sense now and was able to give mom a proper answer as well!

Canaan;

I truly DO hope you work out your health/med issues.

Trucking IS (can be) a very REWARDING career. I'm on my 2nd (guys) one, haha! Been with him for 20 plus years. It's NOT easy on the female of the family, either. Know that.

Sometimes, Tom refers to himself as "I'm just a Dumb Trucker." Ya know what? The 2 degrees he has....didn't pay anything. I get upset when he says that, but ... some people just have that mindset. Stay AWAY from those'uns!

Best wishes, good sir.

~ Anne & Tom ~

ps: Read Old School's blog! It's in his profile. It's AWESOME. If you can't find it, lmk! He should've been an author, pro style!

pps: I spent 34 years in the industry Kandyman has / is . . . they don't nearly recognize THAT enough, either.. but ! We can't all be doctors and lawyers. If we were, nobody would need us/them! LoL !

Thanks for the replies pack rat and Rob T! I do wish people would respect truckers more. Without trucking my family would have been homeless from the beginning. My pap was a trucker and due to poverty and such mom and I basically relied on him for support. And I got to travel the country with him growing up. It was a very awe inspiring opportunity and with out it I guarantee I wouldn't have the desire to drive myself. I guess more people need to be made aware of the importance of Truckers and the emotional and physical toll Trucking itself has on the driver's.

You summed it up, yourself, sir! sorry.gif good-luck.gif sorry.gif

I feel like I am close Anne, I believe I have finally gotten to the correct specialists and have a new internal medicine Dr that is working along with them all. I hope to finally have answers after my next few tests, got my 2 mri scans and also have to do some sort of stomach testing where they feed me breakfast and for the next 3 hours on the hour they scan my stomach to see if the food is digesting and moving through my system properly. I have good feelings about these tests. And I do believe I am finally starting to heal naturally as well. Finally after 10 months I am gaining strength back and am having many less days weak in bed!

Thanks for the reply. I can relate. Though not about being a chef (though it was a thought of mine earlier in life) but I was a dog handler, and worked all holidays. Did that for 6 years. I'm actually to the point now that I don't feel comfortable celebrating holidays, I've been out of the dog industry for 4 years now but still can't get back into the vibe of Celebrating anymore haha

It takes a special person to be a lifelong true chef. You give up a lot of what society says is the normal life. Once its in your blood its nearly impossible to let go. I am a chef who drove a truck for almost two years. A chef dangled a carrot for me to return I did. I hate it. But I thrive at it. It takes an even more special person to drive a truck for life. I am determined to do it again. I long for it. Its a similar career if you break both down to its bare bones. 1) you sacrifice holidays, b-days, funerals, births, etc to deliver your product. 2) you hate it, but g$&dam$it u love it at the same time. 3) somewhat low pay for a lot of sacrifice(trucking is paying better than cheffing rt now) Both are careers w daily curve balls thrown at you. At the end of the day you may be ecstatic at your accomplishments. Or breakdown and cry b/c you feel if you have let someone down or just feel beat by the careers system. Go forth my friend follow your dreams. If it slaps you back to reality suck it up buttercup. Dont let whining deter you. It will royally suck at times, find a way to persevere and succeed. Let the good lord shine a little light on you!dancing-dog.gif

Hey all! New topic of discussion I'd like to have, my mom is also curious haha.

We were discussing the industry and my plans to get into it once I am able and such. And she asked the question. Why are there so many people that outright hate (or at least act like they do) the industry yet they stay in it? I met someone who was a driver for 30+ years. His only (seriously ONLY) advice was to change my mind and not join the industry. No reasons other than "I been doing it for over 30 years, it will ruin you. Don't do it" he says this while he gets home nightly and Owns his own house and cars and dog and has a wife of idk how many years. I use reddit alot. And am part of the truckers subreddit there. I always see people howling and complaining instead of leaving and pursuing another line of work, or at least trying to make changes to help improve the industry.

The only answer I can come up with is that they just like to ***** and moan or is there something else that I haven't been made aware of?

Thanks! -Canaan

COVID Mandates and trucking companies

Not only do I not hear of delta anymore, I distinctly remember a different varient going around before delta, it was a big craze for literally like a week then it also disappeared. Quite odd if you do critical thinking

Just thinking today, funny, now that this "Omicron" escaped South Africa so fast (a few days??? REALLY??) once they shut down travel out of the region,,,right away, suddenly it's spread globally somewhat... BUT , where did the "Delta" variation go? it mysteriously evaporated?? hahaha.....

I call BS on this whole money grab. So NOW they are pushing boosters, and masks AGAIN, just like the "Global Warming" BS YEAH big pharma stands to make another $10+ Billion profit on top of the approx. $40 Billion already in their coffers hmmmm.....FJB et al...... And hearing all these virus's have patents?? WTF proof man made?? Who patents a disease??

Months ago, while still team driving, we passed thru Arizona (many times) overhead boards were saying "Get the vax and join the 2.4 million Arizonians who have been vaxxed"......1 week later, going thru AZ. the overheads, were saying "6 million Arizonians were vaxxed" Well, Sunday night, while I was driving thru AZ. those same electronic boards say "4.3 million" vaxxed?? They can't even keep accurate counts hahahaha

Why? Just why? Quality issues on 2022 Freightliner

Eww, my brain doesn't like that

I know this is petty but we all have our little OCD issues. My 2022 Freightliner Cascadia here has this small issue that just irritates the hell out of me. One is in the sleeper and the other on the dash. The exact same lights but in a different order on each. Seems like it would be put in the same order on both panels. Anyone have it like this? I guess I'm gonna take one panel off and swap them so they match. I know its not THAT big a deal but dayummm. Hope this doesn't void my warranty. good-luck-2.gif rofl-2.gif

Personal challenges that needed overcome for trucking

double-quotes-start.png

Hey everyone, I am under heavy consideration to get my cdl and be a trucker, but I have some health problems (that have yet to be diagnosed, it's a on going process currently.)

I was wondering if anyone was willing to share any personal challenges they had to overcome (and how they achieved doing so) in order to make it as a trucker.

No pressure for anyone to share, I know that some personal challenges are best left unspoken.

Thanks! -Canaan

Insulin dependent diabetic here. Had to jump through a bunch of hoops to get going in trucking the first time around 6 years ago. Had a couple years out of the seat and back at it this year. Way fewer hoops this time and technology has advanced to where it isn’t so bad managing my illness most of the time. Still has its days but I’m doing flat bedding now and loving it. Good luck to you—I really hope you’re able to overcome whatever is going on with your body so you can join us out here. It’s a blast

Thank you for the reply! I also hope I am able to find out what's going on. I crave the open road and the ability to make 3x more a year than I ever made before

Hay you;

I know ya bounce in & out of other threads, and I seem to chase you (randomly) there! Sorry!! I tend to 'do that.' I've been dubbed the 'MommaAnne' or otherwords, of Trucking Truth. Most are kind, so I'll graciously accept; haha!

In all consideration; could you (we?) keep THIS thread going....so maybe our seasoned vets & mods and our 'SUCCESS STORIES' (ie: Chief Brody, Davy, ...and omg SO MANY to list! ...) can find you .. and keep up with 'whats up?'

Just my 2cents, Canaan. Only wishing you the best!

Hay, Canaan;

I just meant, letting us know how things are moving along, with your plight of getting into trucking!!

Hope all is well,

~ Anne ~

Ahh alright. I understand. Currently right now I am undergoing a bunch of testing, mri, blood work, nerve testing, all kinds of stuff. Potentially MS, but not sure yet. I've been almost stuck in bed for this entire year so far, with bad days and then worse days. My old Dr's didn't care about the problems I was having and said I was fine. So I have moved on to cleveland clinic and they are performing all these tests now.

Before this year I was healthy as an ox, never got sick (aside from sinus infections, but I have now gotten a sinus surgery that seems to have fixed that entire problem)

Because of basically being on bed rest most of this year once I opted into getting physical therapy and once I get some answers and get clearance, I plan on getting back into a gym. I have to recondition myself to being able to drive distance, or even stay a functioning human for over 4 hours at a time. It has been one hell of a struggle this year for me

Dutch Maid Logistics -- Orientation/Training

I'm not one to make an opinion about people and such, and I know when I commented earlier you and I had a decent conversation Kerry. But I do need to say a couple things. I read your post about your interracial marriage and questions about racism and such on the road. I didn't comment then, but I am going to now. I personally believe if a person is out there SEARCHING for racism or problems or anything of the negative kind, then they will for sure find them. For example, why go into a bar? They literally breed bad behavior. I would have steered clear of it.

I do believe that you may need to change your mental up. In regards to this racism stuff, it seriously looks like you are a glutton for punishment and negativity. You know they say you can will something into existence by how intensely you focus on it. That may be exactly what's going on.

I can't say if I believe you or the others commenting on here saying that your story is fraud or not. I have not read enough of your posts. And honestly I don't care if you enjoy making up scenarios or not. To each his own. But again, I believe if you change your mental you will find the world is not the dark shell that it sounds like you think it is.

I am mixed guy myself, and yes I have witnessed as much racism in the world as the next guy, hell I had literal race wars in my high-school while I was attending. None of it changed the fact that we all had to go to school. Or that either side wasn't just as poor and unimportant as the other.

Stop focusing on finding the negative and start finding the positive in the world, you will quickly find proof that there is more positive and good people in the world than not, and you will find out that it's only the stupidly loud minority that makes all the problems in the world. At the end of the day, big Joe makes the racial remark then has to go home and be miserable because that's how he chose to live his life. While you get to move on with your wife and be happy and successful only if you choose not to live like like big Joe over there (Joe is a figurative person based on someone I know personally)

Same as before, I fully wish you the best, and wish you a happy and fruitful marriage. And hope you can take some of my words to heart and learn how to be the positivity that you want to see in the world.

-Canaan
