High Road Training Rocks !!!

Went to Oregon DMV today to get info on cost of taking my CDL A permit test found out it was only $50 to take the test and I had that in my pocket so what the heck I'm here lets just do it . I took general knowledge , combination , air brakes , tankers and doubles / triples . I passed them all in just under 40 minutes I didn't ace them but I passed , the wording on some of the questions was just enough different to throw me off , but I must say I have never even picked up the Oregon DMV handbook . I just wanted to thank Brett for this site and the High Road Training Program. Anyone considering going to training I would highly recommend going through the training on this site . All I have to do now is take back my medical card back in and they will give me my permit ! I am scheduled to start school June 9th and they will give my DOT physical on the second day of class . Once again THANK YOU !!!thank-you.gif

Question about High Road Training Program

When you have been halted there will be a sentence that reads something like go over these review questions , after you have answered the questions right a few times you will be un halted and can continue on !

Question about "E-logs" and hours

Not even close to being an expert here but ,,, #1 the truck wont shut down when you're out of hours you will just be in violation and risk fines and possibly termination if it happens too much.

#2 If I understand everything right you should have you're day pre planned before you start driving and know approximate where you will be shutting down for the day before you run out of hours ( trip planning ) and you should have a back up or two incase you run into any delays along the way .

I hope this helps and I'm sure the real pro's will chime in soon !

Western express lease purchase....thoughts???

Avoid it. Get some experience before making such big discussions.

Any smart business owner would know not to get into a business that he knows nothing about. Learn the industry as a company driver.

20+ years and yes I've been an o/o and /or a lease purchase operator for half of those.

Daniel you missed this part !

Only Use Stab Braking on Systems Without ABS?

smile.gif

double-quotes-start.png

It's my understanding that you would use the stab method if the ABS system has failed otherwise you would use the controlled braking method and let the ABS system work as designed ! would be interested to what the experts say here ?? confused.gif

I was typing as you responded. I think we're thinking the same thing.

New to trucking and a lady

Your sister should be well qualified to drive a semi truck when she gets out of cdl school...unless she is only going to get her class B, for short straight trucks..... THE WORLD HAS TURNED !!!!! It does not take "outside plumbing" to drive a truck !! They have air seats, cruise control, floating gears, fully adjustable seats, air conditioning...and yes...some women even pull flatbeds !!!! We are strong...they only things we can't do are things men won't let us try !!!!!! Trucking company's LIKE lady drivers !! we take better care of their equipment, don' go postal on shippers and receivers...and don't get arrested at strip clubs !!! Lady drivers are fast becoming a sought after commodity..... Tell your sis to come on in here and chat with us !!! We'll help her all we can....we are good at that...And this forum isn't just for ladies...we all can post anywhere in this site...but this forum is for the ladies ....cuz we're special !!!! Disclaimer: the guys do lurk in here...we all know it...and sometimes they will post, just to give a guys point of view...which we do appreciate..so don't be surpirsed if ya see Old School, or Guy (Roadkill), or Joba hollar in here...ya gotta love the guys...they spend their entire life trying to figure women out..and they will try to learn it from anywhere they can ..rofl-3.gif

Lurker here , I looked up the school Lisa mentioned and here is their course description ( Coastal Truck Driving School offers Weekday and Weekend courses with new classes starting at least once a month. The course is 160 hours in length taught over a period of 4 weeks or 8 weekends (Saturday/Sunday). The 40 hours of classroom and 120 hours of practical instruction include) Her sister should have no trouble finding a job . Starcar at my age I gave up trying to figure out you ladies I just like to see how you think and marvel like watching a butterfly, beautiful but still don't understand how they fly but it doesn't matter how they just get it done ! smile.gif
