Over the past few weeks I have read so many stories on here that my head may explode... J/K. The book and the stories of some of these drivers (Daniel) pull no punches and tell it like it is... BTW I am going to go try for CDL training with Prime Inc. Any thoughts and comments would be welcome thank-you.gif

Kevin, Prime is a great place to get started - they have some of the best rookie pay in the business. We get a lot of good feed-back from people who get their start at Prime.

No your not allowed to go to Prime. Geesh. You would think they were the only company in the world. Just kidding.

Prime is a good company and one of the better training companies . Can't go wrong with them unless of course you were wanting to learn how to be a Rocket Surgeon or a Brain scientist Then they are not the best but if your looking a a company to start with they are just as good as anywhere else.

Kevin,

I started researching trucking shortly after my wife and I got married, about 3 years ago. We were looking for another way to make a living so that I could leave the family business. Driving a truck is something I've always thought about. We took our time and counted the cost. She's very supportive and is excited to do her part in taking care of our daughter, the house, canning and packing food for me to take on the road.

I just started school this past Monday the 5th. I'm attending a private school and am hoping to get hired on by Crete or Shaffer. If I didn't have a family and current obligations with my home business, I would've chosen Prime and gone through their company-paid schooling.

I'm saying all this to share with you how long it's been since we've actively made the decision to pursue trucking, and yet my growing excitement even after 3 years only confirms that I'm doing something that I love. Every day I get more excited about it. There's been a lot of info so far in school, but since I studied ahead of time using the High Road Training Program, a lot of the material in school is almost like a review of what I've already absorbed. Yesterday we went out to the yard and looked at the slack adjuster on the rear wheel brake of a tractor. I was pumped!!! I've never been mechanically inclined, so I think part of the excitement is seeing this knowledge come together in the 'real world,' that I can identify parts of a brake system!

I can see and will continue to appreciate that driving such a huge piece of machinery is not only a privilege, but something to be taken very seriously. Having said that, I totally feel like a little kid playing trucks in my mom's flower beds!!! I'm not a gear head by any means, but who'd ever have thought that simply driving a big and burly truck could feel like such a 'calling!'

Best wishes to you and your trucking endeavors.

Seeing other people come to the conclusion of going with Prime and hearing the good support of their program certainly makes me feel better because that's where I am going. Starting May 12!

I too came to TT with no knowledge and what I've gained in a little over 1 week is much more than I ever imagined when I typed in "Compare CDL trucking schools" in the Google search bar. What a blessing. I know I am going to school as prepared as possible as I have spent the entire week doing nothing except studying, taking my exam (Permit with endorsements), asking questions of the recruiter, rounding up what I need to take, and reading on here to learn about the training and industry as a career.

I am going into it knowing the pros and cons, what's involved and what it takes. Yeah, I'm very excited. dancing.gif

Randy, Mongo will be here the 12th as well (I'm here killing time until the 12th myself) and a couple of others (Daniel & Ken) may very well be here though all three are ahead of you and I in terms of training. Give me a call when you get here, I'm in room 179 - it will make more sense when you get here . . .

By ALL means . . . the more the merrier! Room 179, just call from your room phone and we should all make a point of having a meal together on Sunday evening. You will get a meal ticket that takes effect on Monday morning but it will be a lot less hectic (and better food) if we can all get together on Sunday evening - there are a few walk able restaurants around here as well! Looking forward to meeting everyone!
