Rookie mistake

Why do the tractor brakes not freeze too? or do they. In freezing weather, should you not set the tractor brakes either? Should you use chocks instead?

I swear my adventures as a trucker take the cake:)

knight requires its mechanics to wear medical gloves due to that and injuries.

Yeah, I find those nitrile gloves do a good job of containing the blood when I'm injured. shocked.png

Internet and WiFi on the road

Question about laptops on the road. Does the vibration mess with the hard drive? I've heard that refrigerators don't last as long because of this. Have any of you notice a problem with laptops also? Would it be better to get a solid state storage computer? I might be allowed to keep my 5yr old laptop from my current job when I leave, but taking it OTR depends on which company hires me because it takes a 450watt power adapter, more than a cigarette lighter plug inverter will handle. I'd need a company installed inverter direct to battery even when truck is running. If I have to I could give the old laptop to my kid and buy one for the road with my vacation cash out money. I would look at Dell Latitude series because they are more rugidized.

Does your Trucker cook in his truck ??

When cooking in the truck with a lunch box cooker, do you have a problem with lingering cooking odor? Or does driving with the windows open a while take care of it?

Quick question about air pressure in tires.

Nitrogen.....is that flameable at any temp ?? I can see why they use it, but I have never even heard of it before.....I really need to get out more..

No, Nitrogen will not burn at any temp. That is another use for Nitrogen, to keep oxygen away and slow down decay. Air is over 70% nitrogen.

What if you get sick on the road?

Botulism is bad stuff. You are lucky you got quick treatment.

Botox treatment for forehead wrinkles that politicians and Hollywood people get, comes from BOtulisim TOXin. It paralyses the muscles so they don't cause wrinkles when frowning and lasts for months. As Starcar found out, it can also paralyse the muscles of the intestinal tract so it can't move digestion along well.

Hockey Dreamer, as you read, Starcar got it from potato soup, so she can't blame meat. You can get E.Coli from improperly cooked meat, but that will only give you the runs.

Is it necessary to have a female trainer?

If I were a trainer, as a male I would be just as or more leary of taking a female trainee in my truck as you are. The temptation for some is just too great to try and "cash in" on a lawsuit. I've had some coworkers that I had to leave the room if they entered and no one else was there, never be alone without a witness just to protect myself from untrue accusations. If they take a dislike to you they can easily destroy your life. In my example, we had a mediator come from headquarters and she gave an ultimatum in front of the boss. Ended up she left, and even though I had not done what she claimed, I still got my next pay raise reduced and she got a settlement.

So the moral of the story is, it's not just the female who has to be careful in mixed gender situations. She might think a male will take physical advantage of her, but he also should fear a female can take legal advantage of him.

Is this what truckin is to become

I'm getting an early start working on that Karma fund. This morning, commuting to work in the snow (so I have a 4 wheeler instead of my usual motorcycle) on north bound Santa Fe Dr, Denver, they have a brand new overpass onramp from Santa Fe Dr to NB I-25. I know the right two lanes of Santa Fe Dr exit onto the ramp but only the left most lane enters I-25 and the right lane has to merge while on the ramp. So I'm in the left lane as I always am, and a semi behind me in the right lane. Traffic was backed up tight and slow because of an accident on I-25 after the ramp so there was no space to change lanes. Before the semi even had his turn signal on, I stopped my 4 wheeler and held the back the left lane until he could merge left in front of me. I hope he appreciated it and had a good rest of the day.

Trucker etiquette question

Hmm, even climbing on the step huh?confused.gif

Growing up in rural midwest has left me woefully naive.embarrassed.gif I will have to go back to the other site and apologize for my argument. I thought pushing them off the step or closing the door on their fingers would be sufficient, while others said pepper spray or taser was standard.
