Large Companies vs Smaller Companies

I noticed in on of the discussions about new drivers and work ethics. I believe it was one of the moderators that said they preferred a larger company over a smaller one because of the equipment provided is newer and consiquently in better shape. I've worked for both and at "this time" I prefer the smaller bcs they actually are paying better. Cpm = .48 (is performances based of course) and the average mileage in 2800 per wk. The 1st company I worked for is large and now trying to sue me for $6000 for 12 days of driver training whĂȘn I had already had paid out of pocket for getting the CDL through C1 training school. I'm driving a 2014 model Pete at th moment and hasn't let me down just yet. They Lao allow you to use your judgement in your routes and where you fill up with fuel. I'm only a 2 year Driver coming out of the oilfield but so far I've been ith this smaller company for a little over a year now.

I began my trucking career with Roehl on 6 October 2015. I drove for them for nearly 6 months before my son and I teamed together with Covenant which lasted an additional 6 months b4 hiring on with Empire in which I have been there for the past year. Just now I received a phone call from a debt collector saying I owed them aprox. $2500.00 for formal training. Understand I paid for my CDL out of pocket... I asked them to produce a contract with my signature. They did produce the contract but the signature looked nothing like my signature. They now have reported this to a credit agency and now have damaged my otherwise impeccable credit rating.... I need some advice for which way to go from here. All replies welcome...

Three different employers... during your first year in the industry... it's not surprising you can't remember/wasn't able to keep track of everything.

Being as frustrated as I was, I've already contacted a disputing agency. As everyone knows, no one wants this issue while OTR...

Yeah, I figure its probably a clerical error. My brother and I have social security numbers that are only two digits different. The USPS mixed up one of our debts and billed him for my charge!! He wasn't happy.

I could see how if they use account numbers or such that things happen.

Call C1 and ask if they have a copy of the receipt. Tell them you need it for tax purposes.

The tuition reimbursement is all I can think of. You were probably to get reimbursed if you stayed X amount of time. If you got the reimbursement but then quit, perhaps that is the issue.

I fight even my legit bills lol. If they don't answer the credit bureau it gets eliminated.

Also, don't deal with the collection agency. Contact Roehl. They sold the debt so they already got paid and won't care. They'll probably explained what happened.

I paid C1 Training $3000.00 in advance for training for the CDL before hiring on with Roehl. I rode with trainer for 12 days before going solo with Roehl.

But who did you pay for the CDL? A private school or Roehl?

What does the contract say. (I know you said you didn't sogb it, but I'm curious).

Usually contracts are for the permit portion, not the paid on the job training portion.

I don't have a paid in full receipt bcs it had been so long and I know I never thought I had to pay for formal training. If there was a contract, I don't remember but certainly this is not my signatures doesn't look like it...

Write a letter to the credit bureau disputing the claim. Send them a copy of the receipt for the amount you paid. Detail the dates you attended. Explain you think the contract was misapplied to you as the signature does not match and you never signed it.

Creditors have a certain number of days to respond to the dispute if you have the paid in full receipt even if the contract says you owe, it should be worked out.

Good luck.

Yes, I did have 12 days OTR training with Roehl... They are calling it safety and knowledge training. I carried a rating of 830 until this happened and needless to say I'm furious. Not sure why they waited so long to tart this....

WHO is saying you owe them $$?

Roehl or Covenant?

You did a private school that you paid for out of pocket?

Did you do a period of "training" at either Roehl or Covenant?

I suspect you had to do some kind of training at Roehl (at the least, as a "recent graduate"), but with 6 months, Cov probably hired you as an "experienced driver". Typically - "recent grad" training, doesn't incur any charges or contractual obligation, if you already hold a Class A CDL.

Your signature looking "shady", is an entirely other issue - but I'll wait to see WHO thinks you owe them $$, before commenting further.

Not sure about he grooming part but I have yet to be late for any load but I have been dry van since starting w/ Roehl. I started my orentation in Grand Prarie but trained for OTR in Gary bcs Grand Prarie didn't have a OTR trainer available..... Just being aware that not a lot to be made in short hops especially since they involve traveling thru Chicago most of the time....

Going well is ok but I signed up for OTR but seem to be only performing short hops between Wisconsin and Chicago with points in between. Not exactly what I would call OTR.
