Well, I'm just a regular dude that enjoys life. I love my family and cling tightly to my values and beliefs. As far as my professional life is concerned, I've always had a desire to go trucking, just have not taken that leap...until now. After 7 years of being a law enforcement officer and a few also spent as a pastor, I'm hanging up my badge. I need a change. It's 2013 and I'm going truckin'.

I went to Swift orientation this February with my CDL in hand. Swift will pay you for days 2 and 3 of orientation. It is not much, $50 a day I think.

Got Beard?...why, yes...I do
Not shaving is fun after three years in the military and 10 in law enforcement. I am letting it go and grow! Hair too.

Pleased to announce...... Exam today........TRIFECTA!!!
Congratulations! Is Prime still paying a bonus for a trifecta? I think I got $250 and my instructor got $900 when I trifecta'd. I stayed with him for TnT, we got along well.

Definitely bring back the avatar photo's even if tiny. Other than that, I love the new mobile layout. Much easier to use and read after a long day. I don't have to zoom in/out now and so far navigation has been dmooth with no issues for me on my crappy iphone 4!

Plenty of parking here. Most of the non elog folks will run the 3 miles to the rest area or 4 miles to the pilot nearby.

TMC has a yard in Columbia as well as offering top notch training. I walked away from my career in law enforcement in the upstate of SC after ten years to drive a truck. Good luck.

1300 appointment time...it is 1510 now and here's the line...
I do not mind this pickup in all honesty, at least they allow parking if one's 14 runs out.
Schism, hope all works out with the trainer. Too many people in this career stress out over things they have no control over.

I guess you could go in there and yell, "Every lost minute is another lost customer to Chinese steel!!!"
Of course you might not want to do that either.
Yeah, I don't have your computer or writing skills to support myself when I get canned for that ;)

And then I hit a low underpas...
I am sorry that you had to experience this and hope all works out for you. In the end you learned a very important lesson, GPS is nothing more than a tool we use. The only devices we can fully rely on are our brains and eyes. We use all the tools at our disposal, but have to rely on what we see in front of us. Always drive slow enough amd leave enough distance to come to a stop if the situation ahead calls for it.
We all make mistakes while we are learning and guess what, we're all still learning! I have been lucky in that I have not hit anything but I have found myself on no truck routes and having to negotiate some very tight situations both forward and backwards due to rushing and not relying on the information my eyes were giving me amd blindly following company navigation.
Again I hope all works out for you and I am glad you and nobody else were hurt.

Starting a trucking career without a clean driving record
The flatbed division here, Swift, is not bad at all. Would recommend as a starting point to anyone.

Check with Swift and Western Express if you have not done so. However you may be forced to wait until the last ticket is at least three years old. Oh and slow down ;)

Thinking about the trucking lifestyle, team driving with an old friend, both newbies.
Look at US Xpress also if you want to team. They do a lot as far as teams go.

Oh The Times They Are A'changin'...
I am trying to avoid the same situation with Swift flatbed. They are moving all dedicated drivers on my account back to the Greer SC terminal. It is the terminal closest to my house but has not dispatched flatbed for a few years. I have so far successfully blocked any moves but I do not know how long that will last. My current dispatcher and I get along great and I stay busy. Not looking forward to a change. Good luck OS.
