Dogs as truckers

Writing never hurts. I have heard some horror stories from people bringing pets in the trucks before (and not even OTR). It's the inconsiderate ones that ruin it for everyone else.

Worst story. Driver complains that Truck #XXX makes him feel sick and nauseous when he drives it. Thought maybe there was something wrong with himself until he realized that it was that particular truck after driving a different one and feeling fine, then switching back to truck that made him sick. He gets sick again, Company shop guys goes to investigate. After lifting the sleeper bed up, discovers weeks worth of dog crap. The other driver was letting his dog crap underneath the sleeper and left it there. Either that or whenever his dog crapped where ever in the truck the driver intentionally put the crap underneath the sleeper. Either way it's full round disgusting.

This was actually at a company I worked for. The whole company was grossed out, and since....has not allowed pets to ride anymore. It's possible in the past that company had some bad experiences like landlords do with pets. That's what I would imagine anyway. Good luck to you out there. I think in the general forum I remember reading something about another person interested in trucking out of Florida and there weren't many options. If I think of the thread I'll let you know but it was one that I posted on I believe. I don't think I've posted on too many threads to find it O.o

Ladies on the road!

I'd say there's 2 things I hate off the top of my head. Other truck drivers who apparently got sumn to prove (like to haul A. try to show off. etc), and ground crew members who want to argue with me about what my truck can and can't do or what is/isn't safe. The ones who think I'm a mind reader or that the truck can instantly do whatever are a minor annoyance, sometimes makes me laugh depending on how it goes.

What I love is that I'm typically by myself, just driving with my music on. Everyday being different is both a curse and a blessing, but I prefer it over the same bs everyday 5 days a week full-time. Another curse/blessing is it's hard to co-ordinate family events and/or attend.

What's funny is I like the solitude of my cab so much that I get annoyed when people call me. I haven't really ever gotten lonely when driving.

New Found Respect For Truckers

They really don't. I've heard someone say 20,000....I'm like uhhhhh ya an empty dump truck is heavier. If it's online I post up the Alaska bridge weight chart since we can go over 80,000 legally. I actually thought it was weird when I found out Lower 48 doesn't, when I think about some of the bridges though....eegh okay ya. I kind of like to see the look on peoples faces when I tell them our Side Dump is legal for about 98,000lbs. And then I tell them dump trucks are legal for over 50,000lbs......and then to think about how many less breaks that is O.o! And that the average 4 wheeler is what....2,500 lbs? Some of em guys eyes as big as dinner plates.

Teaming with wife.

Sometimes the adjustment to 24/7 with a significant other is hard. Some can do it for months on end with little issue and highly enjoy themselves/eachothers company even at 24/7. Others, not so much. I kind of laughed a little @TNTrucker's "Team driving is better if you can do it without divorcing". It is true, I know if my guy and I ever had to switch to OTR and we teamed we would be fine. Only problem we have is if I'm in the drivers seat I can't blow smoke out the window that great like I can riding shotgun and he doesn't smoke. So I tend to just, not smoke if I'm driving and he's shotgun.

Good Luck on your hunt and travels!

New Found Respect For Truckers

Thanks Renegade! If we didn't grow up in a trucking family, there has been this minor epiphany for us too at some point in our lives. I once upon a time (although I really really hate to admit it) was one of those a-hats that would change lanes in front of a semi at a red light because of all the extra space that typically exists. And in a tiny black car O.o!!! I wish someone had taught me better smh. But now I try to educate everyone I know and love and occasionally strangers. I imagine I'm not really making that big of an impact on the strangers, but the way I see it, if one person out of everyone I spoke to takes in what I've said and just once the information saves a life or serious injury, worth my time 100%.

Once I started being just around trucks and not even inside of them, I gained the respect I needed to have as a young driver. It really can make a truckers day when one person is courteous. What's really crazy is if you go an entire day with courteous drivers. I'm.....not sure that's happened yet lol, wishful thinking.

Companies that will let my husband Train me.

Howdy Lashawn. While unfortunately I don't have any answers to your questions. But a part of me was like YAY another woman potentially is going to be trained by her husband! At least your going to school for the CDL part. My SO taught me how to drive a truck, it's been rough tbh. I have my class B and am scheduled for the road test for Class A Monday! And unfortunately because I guess I am gun shy from when he taught me how to drive, I am anxious/nervous about the OTJ training with the trailer with him. He's had his CDL for 22 years now. I know our circumstances are different and I do imagine your training won't be as rough as mine was/is hah. I definitely understand wanting to do the OTR OTJ training with your husband. I wouldn't want to be with a stranger either.

Good Luck on your hunt and travels!

Getting sick on the road....It happens, and it will happen to you. So lets set out some helpful hints..

Another thing apple cider vinegar is good for that works is for wart removal. Works better than anything on the market or from a doctor. Seriously. there might be something to consuming a small amount daily. I know in my culture (fillipino) we use vinegar in a lot of cooking. Part of the reason we either use vinegar or char our meats is because (even currently) in Phillipines sanitation isn't that great. Cooking with vinegar helps kill bacteria that may be in the foods safely. I also used vinegar in my house to kill some mold that started to grow downstairs (when I first bought it, water damage in finished basement) and to keep it from growing back. And the stuff is relatively CHEAP when you think about the cost of other things you may buy instead of using vinegar. Hella easy way to clean the micro wave. Put vinegar/water solution (don't remember how much) in microwave safe bowl, put in micro wave and set on high for 5 or so minutes (also forgot how long lol). It should be steamy. Let it sit in there door closed for a few more minutes and remove with oven mitts!! then simply wipe out microwave. I used it on a crazy bad splattered microwave. Just wiped out after easy. The vinegar also removes bad smells and dissipates.

The more you know! Also curious to know how much ACV you take a day. I'm guessing a shot would be sufficient he he. My daughter and I tend to get sick less than my fiance and his kids. I imagine part of it is how we and our family has been generally eating our whole lives. Granted I feed him but he still eats more fast food than I do. I can't always prep his meals :( O.o

I am a Grandmother in my '50's and want tips on relieving back pain as I seek to become a Trucker...

I hope all worked out well for the Firebird Preistess. But this post is from a year ago. Maybe one day she'll pop back on and give us an update.

Hello Again

Hey there mamabird. I'm guessing it was the written exams? As big scott linked, the testing tools on this site are great and are as they may appear on the real written exams. They are great for practicing taking the real test and testing your knowledge. Sometimes the questions try to trick you on the real test and on the website pre-tests. Really have to pay attention to the verbiage. I like to read the question, all of the answers, then read the question again in case I read it wrong the first time. Sometimes even the answers will appear to be the correct one but one word isn't right, so it will be wrong. I don't think there are any answers that will have two that are correct like "one answer is a better answer than another". If you end up with 2 or more answers that would be correct, re-read the question because they may have slipped in verbiage like "which of these is not..." or the like.

I recently was reviewing the regular drivers license tests online from the DMV with my daughter (14) and there was one question where it showed a photo with lables A, B, and C. but in the multiple choice answers it was like this:

Which example above is correct? A)B B)C C)A D)None of the above

We both picked the answer too fast and it was too late! Got it wrong he he.

Good luck! Keep your head up :D This is not the end of the road. Just a speed bump.
