Yes you will definitely love West Valley terminal. The training is topnotch. The facilities are best of all the terminals I've been to. I've been solo 11 months now. I've seen so much of this country it's unbelievable. But that's all I have to say. Sorry it will depend on if you choose dryvan, reefer or flatbed. Oh, they Intermodal also. But I know nothing of it. Obsorbe all you can from TT, from you training and when you go out with your mentor. Make sure you are getting the backing you will need. But remember once you have your CDL A, to also have humility. You will have challenges from day one, but if have enough salt to have decided to go on this adventure, you have enough Salt to have found this site. And you will have enough salt to get through all these challenges you will face.
Good luck to you and don't be a stranger. Have problems ask for help. This is that humility I was talking about.

Hair Follicle Testing Question
If you did this then, when Swift did a bunch of us back in December, it was 4 months. But as Jay G. Said it could be different with the BMI and the length of hair. Also the fact that so.e shaved their head and the lady was forced to take hait from other places. So, I would wait at least 3 months before applying to company sponsored training programs. Then you will have a better chance. But it would have been better if you hadn't done it at all. Just remember that if you test positive, you might be out of luck getting on with any of the major companies.

So do you have to have a mentor? I hope I never have to have anyone in the tractor with me again. I don't know people can't stand to team. To each his/her own.
But glad that you like it so far. Keep us posted.

Sorry Packrat
I didn't hear them. Maybe we should hook them up to a loud speaker. It wouldn't be that difficult. Let me make sure no cops are around when you do. He'll ticket you with noise abatement . Lol
Well this trip I'm on a 3 stop run. Picked up this morning from Ft Morgan. and then 2 stops in Illinois and final in Indiana close to Michigan border.

Potential new appliance for my truck
Drew
I've been thinking of that appliance all day. See what you did, you distracted me from my duties. Just kidding. But I have been thinking where to put the darn thing? Already have a microwave on the passenger seat with two big cutting boards under it. A 2 at crockpot on the floor near the bottom bunk. A blender next to that, and a 3000w inverter on the floor until I get some longer cables to put it behind my seat. I'm glad Swift doesn't have those mini cabs..... That would be really small.

Introduction with a Life on the Road question.
Depending on the company, as Rick said, they do require you to purchase a kingpin lock. I'm at Swift and seeing we also have to have a lock for the back of the trailer when loaded they come in a set pack. I can't remember how much the set cost but I think it was around $250 for both. I use the kingpin lock when I don't want another Swiftie at the terminal to snag my trailer when I'm taking my trailer in for maintenance. Especially when you go to a dry van terminal and you have a reefer. They go fast there. This a great site to get and learn information on anything trucking. Good luck and don't be a stranger.
