There are some companies (Schneider & Roehl participate) that offer an apprenticeship program for veterans in which you earn a monthly educational pay check from the VA in addition to your company pay. Here are the links if you want to check them out.

Hey Ken! I am in year nine in the National Guard and used my G.I. Bill to pay for all of my CDL school. If it doesn't cover the entire cost, ask the school to adjust the tuition to match your G.I. Bill. That's what mine did and I ended up with nothing out of pocket. I took my class while laid off but got called back before hitting the road. It's nice to have the CDL in case it happens again. Best of luck to you!

I grew up in Dexter and know that bridge well. Long way to back out and usually a line of cars since it's marked as a narrow bridge (about a 2.5 car width). It's clearly marked. Looks like he rolled the dice and lost.

Driving personal vehicle...my car
Ahhh, I see now. I figured there was some piece of the puzzle that my inexperience was missing. Education is a good thing!

I'm going to play devil's advocate here. Driving to work to start your day driving a truck shouldn't be considered work any more than me driving to my factory job is. I'm not considered as working during nor am I being compensated for said drive to work. I know DOT rules are a different beast altogether but IMHO, when one is driving to work, they're on their own time. I'm certainly no subject matter expert so if I'm way off base, feel free to ring the bell and call school into session.

[Video] Truck Driver Busts Cop On His Cellphone, Speeding
Throughout the interaction, the officer kept his professional demeanor
Off topic to Scotty D: Dude, you drove a Hemmet? That is SO bad-ass.

Still do drive them and love it! Steering takes some getting used to. (that's the face of people in other lane you're turning toward!)

I have the utmost respect for both professional truck drivers and members of law enforcement. That being said, while the truck driver may have been correct, he was a bit of a d-bag (can I say that here?). Throughout the interaction, the officer kept his professional demeanor in spite of the trucker "poking the bear" so to speak (pun intended).

Pedestrian Killed by Tractor Trailer
Last year there was a man who committed suicide here in the Cincinnati area by jumping in front of a tractor trailer. People do really stupid things sometimes.....

Same thing just happened in our neck of the woods this past weekend. Unfortunate for both victim's family and driver.
