I have been in contact with many over the road companies.. too many to list off the top of my head and its like talking to a different recruiter each time who tells me something either close to what the last guy said or just some scripted talking points to just apply and see what happens.. that was my first plan of attack, than when it became the same thing everywhere i called I decided to try asking the schools that promice job placement but even they were unable to find me anything at all that had any more hope than send in an app and we will see or pay us now than we will be able to get you hired... It dosent seem to be getting me anywhere... and at this point even a job with a massive turn over rate beats having to worry how im gonna make it day to day... atleast than i was given a chance... but i can only bug them so much till it becomes redundant, because its like im not what they want so i end up in the no pile before i even open my mouth to the recruiter i get when i call back after ive applied to the company.

Its like i cant get through the shell of outside people to get into the core where people have the power to overlook felonies or to the companies willing to pay more to keep the insurance companies happy with felons or with less than perfect resumes... Ive been activly looking for well over a year now since the first time I went to a trucking convention at a hotel here in town, than to sage for a CDL job fair and talked to recruiters. Ive gone to every single cdl related fair or recuitment thing that has come to my area and im still in the same position as before I started.

Just seems like i need to crawl under a rock till my 5 years are up till im even able to be hired. otherwise idk where else to turn cause ive looked into welding jobs, electrision jobs, and ofcourse cdl jobs to see what my chances are before i pay for traininga and it seems the whole job market has it out to make sure felons cant work for years and years after they got in trouble. The job market just looks down its nose at people who had some trouble in life. I mean how many people get a felony trespassing charge? its not drug or violence related, if i had known it would cause such an issue i woulda fought it instead of taking the deal.. I got No jail time, only 25 hours community service, and a few years probation... never failed a drug test, have good work history, been with current landscaping company since 2010... and i have 3 years clean driving record.

so I am Perfect in everything except background... Im the right age, driving record, have proof of my ability to hold a job, but having that one felony has ruined any chance I've had... Its like they treat me like i am some horrible guy all for something stupid in my past... I just wanna do more than survive day to day... i want to have a career that i can build a life out of and get out of this hole I live in. Id call every day if i knew it would help but its becomming more and more work to get the job, than the actual job itself would require...

I will try and apply to the Company-Sponsored Training companies again and hope that i get someone that understands my situation and gives me a chance when i call in, but when i see people I know getting jobs when I know im a harder worker than they are, yet they get the job and i dont and its all cause of some bad situation from years ago, it really starts to get hard to keep trying when im clearly being swept under the rug by the same companies hiring people i know who apply months after me.

CDL:

Commercial Driver's License (CDL)

A CDL is required to drive any of the following vehicles:

  • Any combination of vehicles with a gross combined weight rating (GCWR) of 26,001 or more pounds, providing the gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of the vehicle being towed is in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any single vehicle with a GVWR of 26,001 or more pounds, or any such vehicle towing another not in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any vehicle, regardless of size, designed to transport 16 or more persons, including the driver.
  • Any vehicle required by federal regulations to be placarded while transporting hazardous materials.

Over The Road:

Over The Road

OTR driving normally means you'll be hauling freight to various customers throughout your company's hauling region. It often entails being gone from home for two to three weeks at a time.

Company-sponsored Training:

A Company-Sponsored Training Program is a school that is owned and operated by a trucking company.

The schooling often requires little or no money up front. Instead of paying up-front tuition you will sign an agreement to work for the company for a specified amount of time after graduation, usually around a year, at a slightly lower rate of pay in order to pay for the training.

If you choose to quit working for the company before your year is up, they will normally require you to pay back a prorated amount of money for the schooling. The amount you pay back will be comparable to what you would have paid if you went to an independently owned school.

Company-sponsored training can be an excellent way to get your career underway if you can't afford the tuition up front for private schooling.
