So I have a CDL but I have never been to a school, I have a fair amount of local driving experience but with a not so perfect driving record my options have been limited.. Until now when I was given the ok to come on down for orientation. I was told that I will have a 2 day orientation and depending on how well I do on my driving test will depend on if I get to leave in my own truck or out 1-2 weeks with a trainer. I was just looking for some information on how to get a high score on the test.. I worried on my shifting I have driven some 8 speeds but most of my driving has been on a automatic. Any helpful tips I could get would be great! Thanks

CDL:

Commercial Driver's License (CDL)

A CDL is required to drive any of the following vehicles:

  • Any combination of vehicles with a gross combined weight rating (GCWR) of 26,001 or more pounds, providing the gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of the vehicle being towed is in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any single vehicle with a GVWR of 26,001 or more pounds, or any such vehicle towing another not in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any vehicle, regardless of size, designed to transport 16 or more persons, including the driver.
  • Any vehicle required by federal regulations to be placarded while transporting hazardous materials.

Just remember that you know how to drive. Do what they say, get through it, get on the road. That's all the advice I have.

What's the worst that can happen? So you have to go through a 2 week orientation, BUT they now know you can drive and at that point are guaranteed a job. Don't stress it so much. Go with the flow. Good luck.
