Section 395.1(o) Exception? This provision allows the driver to drive in the 15th and 16th hours as long as he/she does not drive beyond the 16th hour since coming on duty, or exceed the 11-hour driving limit. Anyone use this? Or am I miss reading? I was looking for some practice log book graph grid and found this. No practice sheets! Anyone know if any are available?

Thanks,

Thanks,

I use it bout 2-3 times a month..... Its only allowed by local drivers to get to "home" base....

From my understanding, OTR drivers don't get the option to use this.

so for example, today I started at 0200 and was off work at 1700. If we go with the 14hr clock, I was 1 hr over my 14. I drove a total of 8hrs so I was under my 11, but still went past the 14, with this 16hr rule, I was able to leagally log 15hrs on duty, but I can't use this exception again until I take my 34hr restart.

0200 - 1400 = 12hrs 0200 - 1500 = 13hrs 0200 - 1600 = 14hrs ** The Standard 14 clock 0200 - 1700 = 15hrs

This exception would be logged like a normal drive/OnDuty time.

if you want to play with logs, theres a smartphone app called KeepTruckin which allows you to do a log book on your smartphone/tablet. It however is not setup for 16hr exceptions.

OTR:

Over The Road

OTR driving normally means you'll be hauling freight to various customers throughout your company's hauling region. It often entails being gone from home for two to three weeks at a time.

NP, I found out about the 16hr rule when I was at Gordon the first time.. I hit the button for it and got a phone call 10 mins later saying I wasn't allowed to use it, only local drivers.. I use it now though lol nothing like being on your 14th hour and still got 50miles to "Home" terminal....

Terminal:

A facility where trucking companies operate out of, or their "home base" if you will. A lot of major companies have multiple terminals around the country which usually consist of the main office building, a drop lot for trailers, and sometimes a repair shop and wash facilities.
