Hey Ladies...thanks so much for the info and advice! I appreciate every word! Even though I do have a few physical ailments I believe I will take a chance and go for it anyway, cause I can't compete with the younger people for jobs. QUESTION>>> what would y'all consider the best company for company sponsored cdl training? I want go quality training from people who care about be a good trainer and want the students to succeed! My husband thinks I am nuts and he has no confidence in me at all...he already has me as a failure....but even though he is retired, someone has to bring in more money, so I guess that leaves me. Thanks so much for allowing me to vent and ask question from all you ladies who has been down the same road! Y'all stay safe out therethank-you.gif

Sharon, there is no reason you can't drive a truck !!! If you can pass the DOT physical, and get thru training, then you can do it !! Husbands are a fickle bunch...they have been raised with a picture in their mind of women...and its usually their mother in the kitchen. But times are tough, and you have to do hat you have to do. I know Redgator is training now...and I can't remember who she drives for. but its a little company, and she loves them. Most companies that have women training women have a long wait time to get you with a trainer. But lets take it to the general board and ask Redgator..I'll pm her.

DOT:

Department Of Transportation

A department of the federal executive branch responsible for the national highways and for railroad and airline safety. It also manages Amtrak, the national railroad system, and the Coast Guard.

State and Federal DOT Officers are responsible for commercial vehicle enforcement. "The truck police" you could call them.

The number of female truck drivers has increased over the years and today there are more women truck drivers than ever before.Company sponsored cdl training will allow one to begin the training process without having to come up with the thousands of dollars for training or tuition purposes. The company sponsored CDL training program will provide you with the training needed to obtain your CDL .But popular misconception is you will be required to sign a contract stating that you will work for that particular company for at least one year and make you fulfill other obligations. Once your "free" training is completed, the company will place you with an experienced driver for another several weeks to gain further driving experience before releasing you out on your own.

Sharen...I missed reading part of your post...or I would have responded sooner. In a nut shell it goes like this:

THERE IS NO FREE TRAINING (unless you get in on a one time offer like Daniel B did) You go to their school, you go out with their trainer...and you will be required to drive either X amount of miles, or X amount of months, or they will take an amount out of your paycheck each pay period, or you get a lower CPM...but one way or another, they DO get paid back for training you. And its either a contract, or in the small print.

One of the lesser known facts about ANY CDL school. The cost of your training is the same as any other STUDENT LOAN. It can be collected just like any other student loan from a college...

The reason we stress that you stay a year with your first company isn't to pay off your training...its to have 1 year of solid experience that you can take to the next company that you want to drive for. It proves that you can stick with the bad and good times...It proves your tenacity...

CPM:

Cents Per Mile

Drivers are often paid by the mile and it's given in cents per mile, or cpm.
