This last load I hauled was a class 2.2 hazmat. (Non-flammable gas - nontoxic gas) I was hauling refrigerant.
Any way, I leave N.J. and my fuel stop which is just outside Baltimore, on 95, 1 stop before the tunnel.
The tunnel is posted as NO HAZMAT.
I fuel up and select my next stop, which is my drop in Ohio. The GPS routes me through the tunnel. (Qualcomm Navigation)
I do some reading, and the manual states "If dispatched on a hazmat load, the GPS will provide the proper routing. "
I double check the information, and it is programmed for hazmat, yet the GPS insists on going through the tunnel.
Only after manually typing in the address and adding " / H 2.2 did it route me away from the tunnel. By this time I had already consulted my atlas and knew which way to go, and it was just an experiment to see if I could get the proper routing.
What I also found, was that the "customer code" option didn't work. I had to manually type in the location's address.
HAZMAT:
Hazardous Materials
Explosive, flammable, poisonous or otherwise potentially dangerous cargo. Large amounts of especially hazardous cargo are required to be placarded under HAZMAT regulations
Qualcomm:
Omnitracs (a.k.a. Qualcomm) is a satellite-based messaging system with built-in GPS capabilities built by Qualcomm. It has a small computer screen and keyboard and is tied into the truck’s computer. It allows trucking companies to track where the driver is at, monitor the truck, and send and receive messages with the driver – similar to email.
