Hi, I'm starting Trucking Solutions in Fort Worth Monday. I have been taking all of the practice tests CDL/Hazmat and making 90-100. I study everyday, I've been so excited to do this, have been working for 4 months to get started. I read the reviews from some of you and now I'm trying not to panic lol! I am thankful that I no longer have my blinders on but I am worried about backing, gears and pre-trip 😀

CDL:

Commercial Driver's License (CDL)

A CDL is required to drive any of the following vehicles:

  • Any combination of vehicles with a gross combined weight rating (GCWR) of 26,001 or more pounds, providing the gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of the vehicle being towed is in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any single vehicle with a GVWR of 26,001 or more pounds, or any such vehicle towing another not in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any vehicle, regardless of size, designed to transport 16 or more persons, including the driver.
  • Any vehicle required by federal regulations to be placarded while transporting hazardous materials.

HAZMAT:

Hazardous Materials

Explosive, flammable, poisonous or otherwise potentially dangerous cargo. Large amounts of especially hazardous cargo are required to be placarded under HAZMAT regulations

Hey Tammy,

Don't get stressed about it ... that's why you go thru school. I couldn't do an off-set back-up for weeks! and then it just all came together. The pre-trip seems overwhelming, but pretty shortly we'll find you wake in the middle of the night muttering, "no welds or cracks, no missing or broken leaf springs..."

Everyone will have different skills and experience, but all are there for the same thing. And you can do it!

Panic is pretty normal. There will always be something to learn, practice, and master. The great thing is you will get there. Some will come easy and others not so easy. Your determination and ability to face your fears will determine where you are in 3 months, 6 months, a year.

You know how Facebook has those "from a year ago" posts? Find a way to look back every once in a while. You'll be amazed at what you've been able to do!

HOS:

Hours Of Service

HOS refers to the logbook hours of service regulations.
