So I just turned 35 and for my birthday I bought myself a nice carbon fiber road bicycle. Prior to driving I worked as a DOD contractor mostly on Navy ships with lots of stairs and latters.

After a year and a some change of sitting for 11hrs a day I started noticing this unsightly bulge where my abs used to be.

So for the last couple of weeks I've been torturing myself with some pretty grueling rides and staying away from the fast food joints in the truckstops. And it's working!!

I get some pretty weird looks wearing my cycling kit at a truckstop but my truck doesn't tilt when I get in and out of it so I can live with it. Soon I'm thinking of getting a cycle trainer that works with a video game type setup for the places like Atlanta where you don't really wanna wonder to far because of either traffic or the locality...

So if you see some idiot peddling next to his truck staring at a tv... don't run him over!!🤡

Nice. I've actually been pondering about how to keep from ending up fat and out of shape as a truck driver myself. I know Prime has a gym if they'd have taken me. I thought about taking some dumbells with me, but I probably don't want to add weight to the truck like that.

Get a bike!! If your into games check out Zwift..

If your near a grocery store get a backpack and go without starting your clock... wanna go watch a movie or to the Chinese food joint down the road..

Yes you look pretty weird wearing lycra but hey... It's a necessity... check out GCN on youtube.. fun and informative if you really want to try it out.

And full disclosure... I'm doing a bit more than staying away from fast food.. I'm basically eating all fresh foods... no ramen or junk... if it's in a bag or box I don't have it... save for nuts and seeds.

LOL, why do you think lycra is necessary?

Lycra itself isn't necessary but the chamois pad they put in the bibs or shorts... totally is. But hey don't take my word for it and go for 50miles and let me know how that works out for you. But remember you still have to sit and drive for the following 8-11 hrs.

Nobody wears cycling kit because it looks cool. More of a function over fashion kinda thing.

I never wore that stuff as a mountain bike rider. I never went 50 miles either, but I doubt you're going anywhere near that yourself. :P

Yeah I've done a few 50m rides so far. On the weekends I get a pretty long but relaxed time load so I can plan for longer rides without having to worry about rather I'm going to make delivery on time.

During the week I try to fit a few 20-30m rides in or do interval training or just some light recovery rides just depending on how hard I went the days before.

I'm sure I made it sound like I just started but I bought the bike several weeks before my birthday. And I'm also trying to get into great shape before the "Tough Mudder" which I'll be doing in August.

Also.. I never was really in bad shape. I've always been kinda skinny but with decent musculature. I'm 6ft 185 if that tells you anything.
