What I pact does DOT documentation has on your accident and does it affect your next job
If its a DOT reportable accident then it goes on your DAC report and other companies can see the accident as its apart of your driving/work history.
A department of the federal executive branch responsible for the national highways and for railroad and airline safety. It also manages Amtrak, the national railroad system, and the Coast Guard.
State and Federal DOT Officers are responsible for commercial vehicle enforcement. "The truck police" you could call them.
A truck drivers DAC report will contain detailed information about their job history of the last 10 years as a CDL driver (as required by the DOT).
It may also contain your criminal history, drug test results, DOT infractions and accident history. The program is strictly voluntary from a company standpoint, but most of the medium-to-large carriers will participate.
Most trucking companies use DAC reports as part of their hiring and background check process. It is extremely important that drivers verify that the information contained in it is correct, and have it fixed if it's not.
Is it DOT reportable only if the police are involved to file a report?

Well, lets find out a little more about it....Was it an accident in a 4 wheeler ??? If so, it isn't a DOT reportable accident. If it was in a truck that requires a CDL to operate, then it would be a DOT reportable accident. Sometimes even if the police are there and write a report, or not there, it still may hit your DAC. The best thing to do is check your DAC. But whether its there or not, you still have to be honest about it, when you apply to companies...don't leave anything out there that could come back later and bite ya....
A CDL is required to drive any of the following vehicles:

If have to realize we are talking about two totally different type of reports here.
DOT report accident involves police and reports that can affect not only your driving record but also puts CSA points on your CDL driving record which is your Pretty employment record and can and most often times also goes on your DAC report which is you driver work history if its reported by the state it happens in. This includes any tickets of violations you got and gives you point on your CSA score which companies do look at during the hiring process which is different than the point system used for tickets on your CDL in your home state for traffic violations.
Now for the other report and the one that will make and brake you driving career. DAC report. If you drive for a company they can report anything they want on the report without any consequences to them. Most companies report any accident that you had while driving with them and your driving behavior while at that company and reasons ,if any, as to why your were terminated. If you were in a accident while employed by a DOT regulated trucking company it will be on the DAC report as they had to report it to their insurance company.
While the CSA score report is important cause it shows your recent work/behavior pattern (up to three years in the past) the DAC report shows ALL driving behavior over the lifetime of your driving career.
A CDL is required to drive any of the following vehicles:

It was in the tractor trailer but the fun part of it Is that the sheriff didn't give me any citation but it was a slip and slide situation on a muddy, unpaved and snowy road so all this couple together with a sharp curve which makes kinda hard on me but l appreciate all ur comment though...
I got into 2 minor accidents when I started trucking. 1 of them I took a corner too short, and pulled down a sign with my trailer. The police showed up and took down details for that one. The other I scraped against a wall and damaged the steps up to the cab, and the plastic fairing. No police were involved in that one.
In my case, I need to know what's in the DAC report. How do I obtain a copy ? I'm trying to get a local job. Will these incidents hurt my chances?
Any help, as always is appreciated !
