I am glad to find a place where I can ask questions etc.... I am waiting for Prime to finish my application....they seem to be taking a long time doing my employment background.....any other suggestions on other training companies? Also what is the Pro and Cons of dedicated runs....Im sure the home time would be a plus>>>

I really need insight about choosing a training company.....the most important to me is 98-100% "No Touch Freight"....Pay while training is second.....reasonable Home time last... I am not interested in team driving......I'm also interested in driving a tanker!

Dedicated Run:

A driver or carrier who transports cargo between regular, prescribed routes. Normally it means a driver will be dedicated to working for one particular customer like Walmart or Home Depot and they will only haul freight for that customer. You'll often hear drivers say something like, "I'm on the Walmart dedicated account."

OOS:

When a violation by either a driver or company is confirmed, an out-of-service order removes either the driver or the vehicle from the roadway until the violation is corrected.

If you want tanker, you can check out Schneider after you have gotten your cdl....they have great tanker trucks, and theres a few guys on here that run for them in the tanker division. No touch freight is a biggy for me, also...and its one of the questions you toss at the recruiter...and kinda ask them to put that one in writing... I think you posted somewhere that you were having problems filling in your work history. You can use letters from people (not family) who knew what you did for any amount of time...its better if the letters are notarized. Keep the questions coming, and we'll keep answering them as best we can...

CDL:

Commercial Driver's License (CDL)

A CDL is required to drive any of the following vehicles:

  • Any combination of vehicles with a gross combined weight rating (GCWR) of 26,001 or more pounds, providing the gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of the vehicle being towed is in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any single vehicle with a GVWR of 26,001 or more pounds, or any such vehicle towing another not in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any vehicle, regardless of size, designed to transport 16 or more persons, including the driver.
  • Any vehicle required by federal regulations to be placarded while transporting hazardous materials.

I will look into Schneider.....I can get friends to write letters to attest to my employment as a small business? I think one for the references was from a Transit company that I was driving for and they just have yet to complete the form and send it back to prime.....I have a couple of friends that still dive transit so maybe I could get them to write reference letters as well.

Thanks Again....

That sounds like a good plan...And call your friends who you are using for references...and tell them how important it is to you to get those letters sent back...they may not know how badly you want this !!!

What is "no touch" freight?

No Touch Freight is EXACTLY what you want....It means that YOU DO NOT TOUCH IT.....lumpers are hired to off load the trailer... I've told more than one dispatcher...my CDL does not mean Certified Dumb Lumper.....

Dispatcher:

Dispatcher, Fleet Manager, Driver Manager

The primary person a driver communicates with at his/her company. A dispatcher can play many roles, depending on the company's structure. Dispatchers may assign freight, file requests for home time, relay messages between the driver and management, inform customer service of any delays, change appointment times, and report information to the load planners.
