Hello,

Thought I'd update you on my choice of truck driving school. At first, I was going to attend Prime but for whatever reason, they haven't gotten back with me. That's okay tho~. I've decided to attend a private school instead. It's a little more expensive but worth it . Just have to tie up some loose ends with work. Looking forward to it. I know I won't get rich ,but at least I'll be able to provide somewhat of a decent living for my family.

Thanks again .

OOS:

When a violation by either a driver or company is confirmed, an out-of-service order removes either the driver or the vehicle from the roadway until the violation is corrected.

Good luck! Just remember to study the High Road training program on here before you start school. It really will get you ahead of the class. It is has helped me so much as I prepare for school. I feel like when I get to school most of my book work is done and I will be able to focus on actual hands on driving. You will do great. What school did you choose?

A bit confused. You said Prime has not gotten back to you. You do know that you have to call them after you send in an app right? They receive thousands of app and those that do not follow up soon get pushed to the bottom or the trash. Sometimes recruiters will contact someone who sent in an app IF they have time but not always.

Hours Of Service

HOS refers to the logbook hours of service regulations.

Trucker D...private school is a fine choice. When you get about half way thru, you start sending out your inquiries for a driving job. So by the time you graduate from school, you will be able to make a choice of where you want to work. Make that choice wisely, since you want to stay there one full year, to have it under your belt, should you wish to go to another company. Also...get your cdl permit...and ALL the endorsements you can get before you go to school. You will want HAZMAT , doubles triples, and tanker, at the very least. This gives you more choices in employment, AND once you get them, you got them, and you don't have to mess with them again !!! Also apply for your safety clearence stuff...we call them TWIC here, but I'm sure someone will update me, and tell you what the name is...

and most of all....Make use of all the teaching aides on this site !!! They are free...and you will go into school with so much more than the average student...

And always....WELCOME TO TT !!!!!

CDL:

Commercial Driver's License (CDL)

A CDL is required to drive any of the following vehicles:

  • Any combination of vehicles with a gross combined weight rating (GCWR) of 26,001 or more pounds, providing the gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of the vehicle being towed is in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any single vehicle with a GVWR of 26,001 or more pounds, or any such vehicle towing another not in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any vehicle, regardless of size, designed to transport 16 or more persons, including the driver.
  • Any vehicle required by federal regulations to be placarded while transporting hazardous materials.

HAZMAT:

Hazardous Materials

Explosive, flammable, poisonous or otherwise potentially dangerous cargo. Large amounts of especially hazardous cargo are required to be placarded under HAZMAT regulations

Doubles:

Refers to pulling two trailers at the same time, otherwise known as "pups" or "pup trailers" because they're only about 28 feet long. However there are some states that allow doubles that are each 48 feet in length.

TWIC:

Transportation Worker Identification Credential

Truck drivers who regularly pick up from or deliver to the shipping ports will often be required to carry a TWIC card.

Your TWIC is a tamper-resistant biometric card which acts as both your identification in secure areas, as well as an indicator of you having passed the necessary security clearance. TWIC cards are valid for five years. The issuance of TWIC cards is overseen by the Transportation Security Administration and the Department of Homeland Security.
