The apprenticeship program is not reliant on your route. It is all on the company. If you go with let’s say Schneider or CFI and they have the apprenticeship program you would get it whether you were local, regional ,straight OTR. That being said a lot of strictly local companies are less likely to offer it. And different companies pay it out differently.
Also I would give a regional home weekly route a chance before I went local. A lot of local driving positions can be very tight maneuvering and kinda stressful.
Some of the big carriers might have local routes available but only after you are with them a few months. Because of the reasons mentioned above.
Good luck
Usually refers to a driver hauling freight within one particular region of the country. You might be in the "Southeast Regional Division" or "Midwest Regional". Regional route drivers often get home on the weekends which is one of the main appeals for this type of route.
OTR driving normally means you'll be hauling freight to various customers throughout your company's hauling region. It often entails being gone from home for two to three weeks at a time.
Andrew, swift is eligible for the program, I am currently in the VA program myself. And there is a terminal in Houston.
A facility where trucking companies operate out of, or their "home base" if you will. A lot of major companies have multiple terminals around the country which usually consist of the main office building, a drop lot for trailers, and sometimes a repair shop and wash facilities.

Does anyone know if the VA Apprentice Program is only offered for OTR drivers? I haven't been able to locate a list of all companies that offer this with the VA. I live in Houston and would like to find a company that is local and is a part of the VA Apprentice Program.
Thanks Drivers
