In my brief career so far as an OTR driver, I have blown through my 4GB of data I get with mobile phone plan. IdleAire and truck stop wifi are prohibitively expensive for only working at specific places. Does anyone have some satellite connection usable in a truck or some other unlimited or nearly unlimited plans that don't break the bank?

OTR driving normally means you'll be hauling freight to various customers throughout your company's hauling region. It often entails being gone from home for two to three weeks at a time.

Sprint is unlimited I know for data on their phone. Not sure about wifi.

Now you see why streaming tv/movies/gaming on wifi is not recommended. Have to find other alternatives to entertain yourself while on the road.

Actually the Petro and TA are only $4.95 for 24 hour access. That really is not to expensive.

I've been told that paying for t/s wifi access is tax deductible, it's an expense you take on as a driver.

I have Sprint. I have a piece of crap phone that hid that fact until I came over the road and realized that it truly is junk. Reason I feel this way is that no matter where I am, I drop calls and can have full signal and 4G internet yet I drop calls and can't access internet. When I DO have a good connection on 4G it is REALLY fast and it's unlimited, and I've never been throttled and I burn over 50GB/mo. With a decent phone I may be happier, but right now I want to run this thing over. lol.

It may not be your phone. My 5 yr experience with sprint was SPRINTing To certain spots and holding perfectly still every time it was on an important call lest it disconnect or garble.

Straight Talk has a device for a mobile hotspot. $50 for 5gb and no contract.

I had a Verizon Hot Spot that I took everywhere and it worked great. Not unlimited but 3g cost 36.00 a month. I don't know if they still have that plan because I bought it when it first came out. I know they have 5g for around 60 and Verizon has very good coverage.

I have Verizon hot spot and I pay $80 a month for 10gigs. Mainly used to laptops and ipdad.

All my youtube video watching or movie watching or anything the requires a lot of bandwidth I do on my phone cause I still have unlimited data through verizon. Was grandfathered in with my old plan. Now granted I have to pay full price for my phones but I save a ton of money on data overage chagres. Only cost me $29.95 for unlimited data a month. Right now I am at 15.45 gigs used for the month on my phone. Well over $100 dollars worth. So I get my monies worth.
