Me and my wife are team drivers, we've been driving together for the same company for 1 year. We've had no violations, accidents, or bad inspections. We run close to 6k a week a bad week 4800k. We take anything they throw at us fed ex, cabinet runs, anything the other drivers wont take. We run for a month usually two months at a time and come home for two days. This recent tornado destroyed our home completely in des arc mo. We requested 5 days off to salvage what we could and handle insurance and what not. So the 5th day we realized we couldn't finish and be back that day that it was going to be one more day. My wife called and explained we needed another day. They said ok.
We had been keeping them Informed through our dispatcher the entire 5 days. So we get there on the 6th day get in our truck and head put. We had been in contact with our dispatcher the whole day. They let us drive an hour and half there get in our truckand get to the loves a few miles away to fill up and called us and told us we were fired to bring the truck back. We went back and I went Into the operating managers room and asked what the hell is going on? He said just get out of here I'm done with you and was screaming at me so loud obe of the women dispatchers opened his door and herded us Into his office. He said he was firing us for not communicating with them. That we had a load that was supposed to be picked up three days prior and that he didn't know about the issues we were having and the reasons we had told the other dispatcher we would be one more day. He was yelling at the top of his lungs and bullying me hard-core. Keep in .ind we have never had an issue not one. No warnings or anything. We had just been given the newest truck on the lot two weeks prior because the same guy said we were excellent employees and drivers and we deserved it. I stopped the screaming when I said screw this I'm getting a lawyer. I don't even feel safe in your office right now this isn't how you talk to anyone. I went to leave and he immediately sat down and changed 100 tones and said I'm gunna give you one more chance. Even though we haven't had single issue in the time we've been employed there. I told him I didn't even feel secure about staying there now because he fired us with no warning and like our lively hood meant nothing. He went 180 and talked me into staying. Just saying we better communicate from now on. That I'd he'd been told about our house and everything there wouldn't have been a problem. We have the texts and calls to his dispatcher for every day letting them know for the whole 6 days. I told him this but he just kept saying we should have communicated. I have a kid and home to take care of and was in shock so my pride aside I took my job back and left. This is day two since then and I don't k ow what to do. We're actually two months shy of a year and I've been told if you quit or are fired during your first year you won't be able to go anywhere else. But I don't want to work somewhere I give 110 percent and I mean 110 and can just lose everything at the drop of a pin. I begged my wife to go show him the texts and calls to the dispatcher but she thought it would make things worse. He gave us a bew dispatcher I think tge old one didn't like us because I told him not to cuss at my wife over the phone when we first started other than that I don't get why the dispatcher didn't keep them updated. He told them we hadn't contacted him... sorry for the book but one you vets please help us man. I'm at a loss.
Dispatcher:
Dispatcher, Fleet Manager, Driver Manager
The primary person a driver communicates with at his/her company. A dispatcher can play many roles, depending on the company's structure. Dispatchers may assign freight, file requests for home time, relay messages between the driver and management, inform customer service of any delays, change appointment times, and report information to the load planners.
