Lumpers?

I have been around the trucking industry all my life. Have been a driver since I was able to climb behind the wheel. One of the biggest thing that upsets me is lumpers. What I mean by that is, why should the driver be responsible for unloading and breaking down the pallets to what the warehouse or factory wants. As a driver it is our job to move the product from point A to B and so on. From what I understand of how lumpers work. It starts with the broker. If there is going to be a lumper the broker charges the company extra to move the product. Then, brokers that load to the trucking company. The trucking company moves the product and then has to pay the lumper fee. The trucking company then bills the broker for that lumper fee to get reimbursed. It is one big circle jerk. If the company that is receiving the product does not want to pay employees to unload and sort what they ordered they already have the lumper service on site and should pay them. Would probably get a better rate by doing that as well. I am writing this as I am waiting 2 to 8 hrs after being unloaded. So a lumper service can break the pallets down for the company as I sit here wasting my clock and the money that I could be making. This should not be the drivers responsibility. We as drivers has to band together if this has any chance of changing to get us unloaded and back on the road faster. It is wasting the driver time to sit at a location waiting for somebody so sort out how the company wants the product they ordered to be stored.
