Go where your heart tells you. I wish you the best, in whatever you decide to do.

Trucking remained in the back of my mind..Everytime I get on I-75, I look at the trucks, and the drivers, wondering where they're going, where they've been...Just feel a "pull" or calling to join the ranks. Being a Christian man, I believe this is the direction the Lord wants me to go.
You sure Gary? Sure its the lord and not the devil that is making you do it?
Gary..glad to have you back. It never ceases to amaze me how the IT people keep up with tech stuff...its travelling at the speed of light !! I can't even keep up with new phones !! So I stick with what I know...
Welcome back Gary. My wife and I took a good 3 or so years researching and soul searching before we committed to sending me off to be a trucker. Nothing wrong with taking your time. And, nothing wrong with ending your career as a trucker if you find out it isn't for you. Having said that, most folks will say to give it at least one year - for multiple reasons. Nobody knows what it's like to be a trucker until you're a trucker, but I have a funny feeling that I'm going to be making this my long term career. Of course at the end of the day, feelings come and go, making a commitment through the good and bad days is what really matters, kind of like marriage.
I'd like to offer a bit of insight that I've gained over the years. Being a believer myself, I entrust my life and my family's life and well being to God. I take a pragmatic approach to God's will in my life. If I'm obedient and living in a way that is pleasing to Him, I believe my decisions will be in tune with what He wants from me. What's pleasing to Him? To love Him with all my heart and other human beings. That doesn't mean that I like very human being. . I might ask for direction, but I don't wait, and wait, and wait... I make decisions and trust that if He wants me to go a different direction, then it will be made clear to me.
I believe that the desires of my heart, whether to become a trucker or to volunteer at a charity, are pleasing to Him. To be a trucker or anything that would support my family, is God's will. To volunteer at any charity, is God's will. To not volunteer and spend that extra time with my wife and daughter, is God's will. Basically, I believe He gives us the freedom to be who we want to be and do what we want to do, as long as we understand that we put Him first. Pretty simple actually. Do I believe that God cares whether the Steelers beat the Ravens? No, but He should.
I think you catch my drift. It's not that God doesn't care about the mundane, it just that he gives us freedom to be and do what we like, as long as we are committed to Him and His ways.

Hey y'all-I'm BACK! I was about 3 days out from starting class and changed my mind about being a trucker. Decided that since I'd spent so much time getting my degree in I.T. and working in the industry for 14 years, I couldn't abandon my career. I had an interview 2 weeks ago, a 'dream job' working with doctors and nurses around Atlanta, and I was all excited and psyched about it, since I'd applied for this position several times.
SO the big day comes, I go for the interview. First thing he asks is if I know WCS. I'd never heard of it...then asked if I'd worked with active directory, NOPE...I sorta knew then that I was out of the picture. All the interviews ask if I have experience with softwarte or apps I never heard of..

Being a Christian man, I believe this is the direction the Lord wants me to go. Oh, I'm excited, but to be honest, saw some you tube stuff that turned me off at the last minute..
SO I'm determined to stay the course and make a commitment to trucking. I've been on this board and done TONS of research before, and will start the online cdl training course again.I got about 95% finished with it before. So I'll be hanging around, asking more questions and getting advice and encouragement. Feels good to be back!!! Gary
