I would like to thank everyone who contributes to this website. It has helped me so much in understanding everything I need to know in making this decision to become a truck driver. I have been a General Manager for 11 years at a restaurant chain, having accomplished all the goals I set out for I have decided I need new goals and challenges. My grandpa was a truck driver for 25 years delivering cylinders all over NM Tx and Co. Growing up in a family with four sisters and a single mother he always told me hard work and dedication will help take a person where they need to go. After months of discussion with my wife and daughter I have their full support to work at this goal. I have talked to Knight and they told me to get a DOT medical exam, that I received last week. I was granted a one year certificate. And a CDL learners permit which I have no doubt I will be able to achieve once I finish High Road training. Once again thank you all for this website!!! I will keep you posted on how this journey progresses.
Yes Edmund....that is so true for so many people on here. I feel it was a God-send for me. It helped me make my decision, choose a company, get prepared to go to school, and start to understand the career. I have already met so many good people, on here and once I got to Prime. Any doubts I once had are now gone and I give Brett a ton of credit for TT and a big thank you to those on here who contribute. I tell people about it on a regular basis and I will continue to be a part of it moving forward. I started my own diary on here to cast in my perspective and experiences so others can hopefully gain something in their own quest.
I wish you the very best as you go to Knight. Keep your nose to the grindstone and persevere. It's like eating an elephant....one bite at a time. Enjoy the elephant!!!
A CDL is required to drive any of the following vehicles:
A department of the federal executive branch responsible for the national highways and for railroad and airline safety. It also manages Amtrak, the national railroad system, and the Coast Guard.
State and Federal DOT Officers are responsible for commercial vehicle enforcement. "The truck police" you could call them.
Operating While Intoxicated
When a violation by either a driver or company is confirmed, an out-of-service order removes either the driver or the vehicle from the roadway until the violation is corrected.
Thanks Randy for the great analogy! I appreciate your support. Thanks again!
