Question:

I have watched the FFE Academy youtube videos at the Nick Cook channel. Are these instructors still there?

NO the school is in Ft. Worth. IF you are planning to be a tanker driver but are coming to FFE/KLLM for school, I would keep that information to myself. You have to do a year at KLLM. Again take all your tests for the CDL Permit all 5 before you come, you don't have to but its worth it. I only took 2. Once im done training Ill be going to Lancaster to hook up with a trainer. I know someone who worked in Midland in the oil fields he came back to OTR its more than just "truck" driving, however everyone has their own preferences. I have got definite plans but right now im focused on my beginning career as a safe sound OTR driver.

Congrats guys . I was wondering bout the sept 1 date. David are you guys at the main terminal in lancaster or off site. They may be sending me that way to keep me moving for the weekend. If so if it times out good would be great to meet you. I had a heart to heart with my fm after last weekend. I pickup in NC tomorrow and head to AL. Freight is harder to get so they are looking at sending me over to MS to grab a load west.

CDL:

Commercial Driver's License (CDL)

A CDL is required to drive any of the following vehicles:

  • Any combination of vehicles with a gross combined weight rating (GCWR) of 26,001 or more pounds, providing the gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of the vehicle being towed is in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any single vehicle with a GVWR of 26,001 or more pounds, or any such vehicle towing another not in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any vehicle, regardless of size, designed to transport 16 or more persons, including the driver.
  • Any vehicle required by federal regulations to be placarded while transporting hazardous materials.

Terminal:

A facility where trucking companies operate out of, or their "home base" if you will. A lot of major companies have multiple terminals around the country which usually consist of the main office building, a drop lot for trailers, and sometimes a repair shop and wash facilities.

OTR:

Over The Road

OTR driving normally means you'll be hauling freight to various customers throughout your company's hauling region. It often entails being gone from home for two to three weeks at a time.

Fm:

Dispatcher, Fleet Manager, Driver Manager

The primary person a driver communicates with at his/her company. A dispatcher can play many roles, depending on the company's structure. Dispatchers may assign freight, file requests for home time, relay messages between the driver and management, inform customer service of any delays, change appointment times, and report information to the load planners.

Yes, I already understood that part. I just need to do my eye exam and get my glasses first. As soon as I am done, I will take all the written exams.
