I live in the big state of Texas and down by the Gulf of Mexico outside of Corpus. I know I will be looking at the oil field.......they may pay hourly. Had a guy at the truck stop two days ago, telling us to apply with his company hauling crude oil. He said he was pulling in over 300 a day working five days a week. And that he only drove 109 miles out and back twice a day. And he wasn't dirty.he said look at me and never get dirty. So my question is, if I'm going to apply and they ask me what my hourly wage I'm looking for on app what do you think I should start with. And yes I will have all my indorsments and TWIC card as well when I apply.

TWIC:

Transportation Worker Identification Credential

Truck drivers who regularly pick up from or deliver to the shipping ports will often be required to carry a TWIC card.

Your TWIC is a tamper-resistant biometric card which acts as both your identification in secure areas, as well as an indicator of you having passed the necessary security clearance. TWIC cards are valid for five years. The issuance of TWIC cards is overseen by the Transportation Security Administration and the Department of Homeland Security.

Sorry to burst your bubble... kind of. Im going to burst it than I'll inflate it with a different idea.

No company that hauls oil is going to touch you. Meaning you will not be able to haul oil right out of school. Not really the company it's insurance reasons. No insurance company is going to cover you. I would honestly be really surprised if you did find someone that will hire you to haul oil. Most insurance requires atleast 2 years.. some require 3 for oil.

I know this because i myself work in the oil fields. I was able to find a job right out of school hauling for the oil fields. However I haul sand for the fracking process. Pays a small amount less than oil but you can get a job right out of school. You may also find a job in the oil fields that hauls water. But sorry... no one is going to hire you to haul crude oil right out of school.

As far as starting wage.. I don't really know how Texas pays. I can give you a good idea for North Dakota and Pennsylvania. But not for texas.

Where you get most of your money in the oil fields is with overtime pay.

I heard one new graduate get a job hauling fuel back and forth to rigs. Definitely see if they have a position they'd consider you for.

As far putting your starting wage on an application... do you already have the application? I've never been asked that question for a trucking job. Maybe the oil industry is different.

Well, there is a company in NC that hauls gas and diesel that hires directly from the school I attended. True that most insurance companies will not cover you without some experience, but most large companies are bonded. This eliminates the insurance problem for new drivers.

I'm just saying from what I see... I'm in the oil fields. All I'm saying is you are going to have a real hard time finding someone that will hire you for hauling cruel oil with no experience. I would be stund if you got an oil field job hauling crude oil. Sand and water pays almost as much as oil.. so there are options. Just don't put everthing on this one company.

Time will tell.....and I like your answer Ynkedad ! I'm sure I will have to work my way up just like the rest. And Buttonup your right, I was just offered to go apply at one crude oil company.... Was told they will hire me right out of school here. As soon as I get that HAZMAT. But like everything else in this world........time will tell. Thanks for the info everyone.

HAZMAT:

Hazardous Materials

Explosive, flammable, poisonous or otherwise potentially dangerous cargo. Large amounts of especially hazardous cargo are required to be placarded under HAZMAT regulations
