I just graduated that school, you can return you just have to pay 750 bucks on the 3900 they loaned you to get another shot.
If they had you backing in the middle of the range keep in mind that the drain in the center pulls the trailer to the right so you always have to correct that direction. Do not give up, just try to get the cash together to try again and ask lots of questions. The 2 guys on the range that work most with VA students are Craig (short guy that always looks mad) and the new instructor Richard. ALWAYS go to Craig with questions Richard will flip out if you ask questions and IMO a poor teacher because of how he presents information.
Do not give up just buy back into the school and keep going. Like i said the best guys down there to ask questions of are Vince (bald guy with beard - he is the lead instructor) and Craig (kinda short always looks like hes in a bad mood) Craig is who i went out on the road with the most
Just as a trick if you do go back, if you are in the middle row of trucks for the backing when you go to correct keep your right hand at the top center of the steering wheel, AS SOON as the trailer starts to pull to the right move your hand to the 1:00 position on the steering wheel and hold it for 1 second then go back to 12:00, you will need to do it about 4-6 times though the length of the back. Just remember at that school they make everything harder then it needs to be so it eaiser for you pas later on, that is why they only give you 10 feet wide of space to do your straight back.
I'm curious about the line: where the "dock" would be or off track left or right?
We had to back up the tractor and trailer between the cones and I did it. He blew his whistle before the front tractor wheels crossed the last 2 cones. They should not be mentioning invisible lines til we had more behind the wheel training.
I only had 3 practice attempts before they tested me the first time, i failed the same way you dd i was straight until i got out of the cones then the trailer pulled to the right. asked Craig how to fix it and he told me then he told me to hop back in the truck and practice since everyone else walked away. After i nailed it 6 times in a row he passed me so i could move on to pre trip.
One of the things about Richmond is YOU have to show you really want it by asking questions. If you show you are trying to learn they will help you provided there is time to do so. It is a crash course over a very short amount of time.
Just do not give up. If you can pay the 750 to get back in i recommend you do so, it will not only give you another chance at the straight back but it will show them that you really want to learn. Also to help keep you aligned after you get out of the cones there is a blue barrel behind you that you can keep lined up with.
