Yes, yes, and yes. You can stay out as long as you want OTR. You'll have more time on a 34 hour reset than a 10 hour break. Most companies will route you back to your domicile for your hometime, but I'd imagine there's some flexibility to give you a few days off for hometime at another location, as long as you clear that ahead of time. Probably a good question for a recruiter. Different companies might have different policies in regard to where you can take your hometime. I know there are drivers that do this.
OTR driving normally means you'll be hauling freight to various customers throughout your company's hauling region. It often entails being gone from home for two to three weeks at a time.
I am single and am in a place in which I can move anywhere, no dogs, girlfriends or lawns to mow. Will most companies run you constant once they can trust you? Do some drivers make mini-vacations and visit surrounding areas? Hike, jog, etc. ? How do some spend their down time?
My friend, you are in the best place you could be as a trucker. Make a deal with a relative or friend you really trust and get your mail at their house. Move into your truck and live there, store stuff you feel you have to keep in a storage facility. Pare down your payments...you don't need a car or anything else but your cell phone.
You can put half or more of your income into an investment portfolio with a reliable organization. Start with your bank, and after you have built up a good nest egg, find a good investment broker and put it a mix of conservative and high return investments.
If you do that, and truck hard, after 5 years you will be in a really good position. You could pay for college outright, or have enough down payment to buy a property and rent it out. Use a management company to take care of the property because you can't when on the road. In ten years, you could be in a position where you will not ever have to worry about retirement.
Good luck. Tracy
I'm from Iowa, but did one hometime over New Years (2013/2014) in Denver, and went to Coyote Ugly Saloon.
So yes, you can spend hometime away from your home domicile.
FULL DISCLOSURE: My main terminal was in Denver, so that made it easier.

A facility where trucking companies operate out of, or their "home base" if you will. A lot of major companies have multiple terminals around the country which usually consist of the main office building, a drop lot for trailers, and sometimes a repair shop and wash facilities.
