I start my CDL school in just over 6 weeks from now. Got my permit easily thanks to the High Road Training program on here. I went today to get my physical and figured it would be no problem since I'm pretty healthy. Walked out of there temporarily disqualified! I was told not to worry, but I just have a couple of more hoops to jump through. Apparently since I use a CPAP machine I have to show proof that I'm using it. And since I had a minor heart attack 7 years ago and was put on blood pressure meds (no history of high BP, but told it has other benefits), I have to go to my cardiologist and get some kind of clearance paperwork from them. So I'm going to end up spending almost twice as much for my medical card than I thought and it will only be good for a year. Guess it's a good thing I went early to get it done. And I'll have everything I need when I have to do the physical for the company so there won't be a hold up then. I guess every cloud has a silver lining, you just have to look a little harder sometime to find it!!! smile.gif

CDL:

Commercial Driver's License (CDL)

A CDL is required to drive any of the following vehicles:

  • Any combination of vehicles with a gross combined weight rating (GCWR) of 26,001 or more pounds, providing the gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of the vehicle being towed is in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any single vehicle with a GVWR of 26,001 or more pounds, or any such vehicle towing another not in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any vehicle, regardless of size, designed to transport 16 or more persons, including the driver.
  • Any vehicle required by federal regulations to be placarded while transporting hazardous materials.

CPAP:

Constant Positive Airway Pressure

CPAP is a breathing assist device which is worn over the mouth or nose. It provides nighttime relief for individuals who suffer from Sleep Apnea.

TWIC:

Transportation Worker Identification Credential

Truck drivers who regularly pick up from or deliver to the shipping ports will often be required to carry a TWIC card.

Your TWIC is a tamper-resistant biometric card which acts as both your identification in secure areas, as well as an indicator of you having passed the necessary security clearance. TWIC cards are valid for five years. The issuance of TWIC cards is overseen by the Transportation Security Administration and the Department of Homeland Security.

I had the same issue with the CPAP machine.. I had to purchase a new machine with data capability... And then use it for 30 days before I was able to complete the physical. So make sure you have at least 30 days worth of CPAP data on your machine... and that your machine has a SD card so that you can remove it and connect it to computer to print out the information.

Thanks Jared, figured I wasn't the only one that has had issues. Fortunately my machine has the SD card, so that part is just a matter of getting the report printed out. It just bites when things are going along smoothly and then you hit a snag. But I guess I need to get used to that if I'm going to make it in trucking! LOL Good luck with your training.

Yeah, it was pretty frustrating for me.. I had quit my previous job and gone to Swift's academy, to be told on my second day I'd have to get a new CPAP machine.. and use it for 30 days. So I got to play the waiting game, while unemployed, for the past month or so.. I am glad that I'll finally be back at it tomorrow (2/9).
