"My biggest fear is passing the DOT physical, because of some moderate hearing loss in upper frequencies."

Hi Tim,

I too am Really concerned about this. as I have "Significant" hearing loss in my left ear. I can still hear, but a loud whisper may be a challenge (spoken into my left).

Currently, I can't afford to get hearing aids. And probably, I could get by with just one hearing aid for that ear when I get enough $$ to purchase one. All in all, I think if I were in a dr's office, I could hear a loud whisper.

I just spoke to a recruiter and filled out an online application for Swift this week. I've been studying the material from this site (which is awesome by the way, thank you) and taking the practice exams. I just want to be fully prepared for this new career.

Would Swift hold this against me? Or even, would the DOT make a requirement?

Thoughts anyone?

BTW, On Tuesday the 22, I'll be 45. At this age so far, I need to wear corrective lenses for Driving (I'm near sighted). I don't believe I have any other ailment besides the hearing thing.

DOT:

Department Of Transportation

A department of the federal executive branch responsible for the national highways and for railroad and airline safety. It also manages Amtrak, the national railroad system, and the Coast Guard.

State and Federal DOT Officers are responsible for commercial vehicle enforcement. "The truck police" you could call them.

You should be fine, other than maybe your hearing...But I've seen HEARING AMPLIFIERS for sale at drug stores....so check into those...they are a ton cheaper than fit hearing aids...

HOS:

Hours Of Service

HOS refers to the logbook hours of service regulations.
