I don't buy it. I think we need to see some actual proof besides you stating that you watched a video. Maybe a QC message? A Swift safety video? I need actual proof before I throw Swift under the bus.

its a video message on the quallcom from the COO.

For me when they call my truck in itg will be the day i give them back the keys to it. I will not have a cam facing me while i drive. Even in an accident a driver facing cam will NEVER help the driver any lawyer will find something to shift blame onto the driver weather it be the driver checking a mirror or not checking a mirror to taking a sip of a drink or sneezing.

The OTR drivers will be the last drivers to get the cams so i have at most a year left with swift. I have already goten several offers from other companies for quite a bit more money once i pass that 1 year of OTR experiance.

The one i am looking most at is Crete where they offered me 46-48 cpm with an average of 2900 miles a week (current fleet average) that over a 10 cpm bump over what i am getting from swift and at a year time will prolly still be close to a 10cpm bump.

The thing i find most odd about this cam thing is they tested it last year and they ended the test early as too many drivers refused to drive the trucks and they were sued and LOST when one driver sued them over privacy issues. It does nothing but give swift another avenue to throw the driver under the bus. Many of the drivers i have talked to say the same thing, cam goes in they turn in the keys, the really bad thing about it for swift is its their experianced guys with years of service.

I also find it funny they announced that 86% of the drivers were 100% accident free last year. SO i do not get the need to have a baby sitter.

OTR:

Over The Road

OTR driving normally means you'll be hauling freight to various customers throughout your company's hauling region. It often entails being gone from home for two to three weeks at a time.

CPM:

Cents Per Mile

Drivers are often paid by the mile and it's given in cents per mile, or cpm.

Old School, one of the things the cam is supposed to do is record a critical event, the thing is you could be parked changing cloths and someone jack waggon runs into you at the truck stop, you call out of the sleeper they got your naked ass on video for everyone to review. Just imagine the lawsuit if that was to happen to a female driver and your naked butt gets passed around the swift office and ends up on the internet...

Also herd from guys that had this system installed in their trucks and get calls from their DM asking what they are eating as their DM downloaded the last 20 second video.

Last thing, I really am finding it difficult to understand how you veterans are taking this so cavalier. Of all the people in trucking it would seem to me you guys would be the most outraged.

double-quotes-end.png

Atilla, that one thought should be enough to give you pause and maybe consider your reaction as over the top.

double-quotes-start.png

If im going to be under constant watch, trucking makes zero sense as a viable career. This is me, i am sure many don't feel this way, don't have the option or don't care.

double-quotes-end.png

This is where you lose me. You are already being watched and monitored in almost every way imaginable.

Atilla, I chose this job as a second career. One that I didn't even really have to do. I could be at home taking it easy. Trucking, for me, is one of the last most independent, unfettered careers that is available to the independent type of folks who enjoy life that way. You could put fourteen cameras in that truck with me and I would still feel the same way. I'm free from all the inner office politics, cubicle chatter, and other folks who can bu such a PITA at times. I get to call my own shots, work when I want to, and plan my own schedule of how I want to run my loads (all within the parameters of the law and satisfying the customers needs of course). All the monitoring of my duties doesn't concern me because I know that I can still do it my way and as long as I'm kicking some tail and exceeding the results of the other drivers on my board I am treated like the King. If they enjoy watching me conduct myself like a King, then let the cameras roll.

What you are seeing as cavalier in us is not that at all. It is just the reality of this job.

your saying you wouldn't mind at all getting random calls from someone saying "i agree with what you said on the phone just now" as the swift cams also record audio

Sounds like a bad driver. DM's trying to find out what's causing the delay (drug use).

And lawsuit? Only females? Sexism is as bad as racism.

Hi Attila.....you had me worried for a minute there. I've just watched the Swift video again......please watch it again and take in more of the detail. The camera's......both inside and out.....only switch on and monitor an event......around twenty seconds at a time. Which means that the camera is not on all the time. Good news eh.......nobody will be watching you full time.......and I agree with what has been written earlier......what a boring job that would be.

The camera has a green light and a red one, which lets the driver know when it has been switched on and its recording. All in all its a good tool if they want to show this as evidence in a court case. Give Swift a chance to explain all of this too you by your DM and then give it a month with it before you make any decisions on Swift or if you wanted to give up trucking.

Take care my friend.

Mick

think logically, in order to record 10 seconds BEFORE an event that means it has to be running all the time unless the cam knows the event is going to happen in 10 seconds.

just an example.... i do not think many dudes would care if their pasty bare behind went around as much as a female having her chest exposed... also dude butt is less likely to end up on you tube then trucker boobs.

I see no issue. Are you in a state where prostitution is illegal? Lied to a cop during a routine stop? Did the cop lie? Cameras don't lie.

Sounds like the best idea since the experiment with cops & cams (police resistance and assault magically dropped the second cams kicked on).

Sounds like you're engaging in illegal activities and are worried.

Right.. Because females hate sex, sexual organs, have no desires, etc... Now that we're back to reality though!

No. The camers records 10s, dumps the segment after 10s more pass. In the event a crash occurs: It does NOT dump and segment data. Super simple (logically ofc).

no i am not worried at all, i am 100% safe and 100% on time since being with swift. I just do not want them to just look in any time they want. There is no part of a driver cam that works for the driver, as any ambulance chaser can find something to shift blame to you.

yeah its in 10 second packets, but there is always a way when something is connected to the internet like the cams will be to have data pulled at any time.

Sorry won't be in my truck, not that i have anything to hide but it tells me that the company does not trust me so therefore i have no need to work for that company. Especially when other companies pay more.
