I was just informed that a student 5 months ago was forced by Quality Drivers/Celadon in Alabama at the Gadsden Alabama School at Osborne had to retake the Alabama CDL-A Permit test, The reason was it was in the contact that they pay for it? Is this strange or is it just me? could they not just reimburse you the cost? I have a Alabama CDL-A Permit with HazMat ,Tankers and Doubles/Triples paid for by me and earned with study on my own this sounds crazy? Does any other school require this when the school is in the same state your permit was issued in?

CDL:

Commercial Driver's License (CDL)

A CDL is required to drive any of the following vehicles:

  • Any combination of vehicles with a gross combined weight rating (GCWR) of 26,001 or more pounds, providing the gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of the vehicle being towed is in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any single vehicle with a GVWR of 26,001 or more pounds, or any such vehicle towing another not in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any vehicle, regardless of size, designed to transport 16 or more persons, including the driver.
  • Any vehicle required by federal regulations to be placarded while transporting hazardous materials.

HAZMAT:

Hazardous Materials

Explosive, flammable, poisonous or otherwise potentially dangerous cargo. Large amounts of especially hazardous cargo are required to be placarded under HAZMAT regulations

Doubles:

Refers to pulling two trailers at the same time, otherwise known as "pups" or "pup trailers" because they're only about 28 feet long. However there are some states that allow doubles that are each 48 feet in length.

I went to quality in Indy. Several students already had their permits. They still had to sit through all the classes, but didn't haze to retake the test.

There are state and federal requirements that you have so much class room time. That's why they do that.
