Another update on my journey as a truck driver (future truck driver) I have been given a date to start at Swift in Michigan for Tuesday 30th April. I will have four to six weeks with my trainer then I might ask to go team for a while with a guy that I went to trucking school with.....just to get myself bedded in with map reading and somebody to help with docking the trailer.....I'm excited, but very nervous. I know I have to stay one year with what ever company I choose....Swift is my choice.....I know there will be rough times....and good.....I will keep posting to let you all know how I'm getting on. Bring it on ;-)

OOS:

When a violation by either a driver or company is confirmed, an out-of-service order removes either the driver or the vehicle from the roadway until the violation is corrected.

Sounds awesome!

I would definitely tell your buddy from school that you're not ready to commit to teaming just yet. Wait until you spend a month or so on the road with your trainer. Most people hate teaming, but some will compromise in the beginning to have someone along with them as you mentioned. Others would rather poke themselves in the eye with a needle than have to spend one more minute crammed in the truck with another human being.

So stay in touch with your friend but make sure both of you want to run team after running team with your trainer. Until you've lived with someone for a month in basically a walk-in closet, it's hard to imagine how tiresome that can get.

But Swift is an excellent company with a ton of opportunities so you should do well there.

Thanks guys....I hear you Brett on the team situation. My buddy and I got on well in training school together, but I'm sure it would be different when your locked together in a truck. I just hope I get a good trainer to continue on my path. I would class myself as easy going and able to get along with anybody. I will keep you all posted.

Swift is a great choice in my opinion. Have several family members that have been employed by them for many years. I also have someone I know who works in the Payroll sector so I think they are a good place. I wish you luck and keep us posted.
