Bicycles on trucks

BK, what about the passenger seat? A lot of the newer bikes have a front wheel that is designed to come off quickly and go back on the same way.

Are you thinking about a bike to help get some exercise without taxing your knees?

In person interview tips?

BK, good luck on your interview.

PJ is right business casual is the right way to dress. Like the old saying goes you never get a second chance to make a first impression.

Keep your answers brief but focused. What I mean is don't ramble on when responding to a question. It is ok to pause for a second and form your answer in your head before speaking.

Ask at least one question when it is your chance. PJ is right again when focusing on how that company operates. Another option is there a go / no go policy that would make you not want to work at a company. If you ask something like this make sure you write it down and it does not sound disrespectful.

Lastly thank then for their time and the opportunity to interview with them.

If they have more candidates to interview and they will not be making an offer that day send an email to again thank then for the time they spent with you.

Best options to get my cdl

I know Prime drops their contract for vets from 12 months to 9 months. But it would not be advisable to leave at least until your 1 year mark with your first company for numerous reasons. But it is an option at Prime.

Best options to get my cdl

I am 99 percent you can double dip company based training and get your GI bill benefits for a certain period of time. When I was looking more seriously upgrading my class B to an A it was available under a few companies that had apprenticeship programs approved through the VA. I would start at the VA website and you could always talk to a recruiter, I think Swift was one of the companies that participated in the program.

Nobody will hire me after termination. Should I give up on trucking?

Devildog, have you looked into any farms nearby? With harvest starting they are always in need of drivers. Another route is construction but they will be winding down in the next couple of months.

Safety Termination...?

Rich,

There a a few up hill battles you are going to have to fight. Yes your first employer terminated you for a safety violation and likely put it on your DAC. You can dispute this but it will be an stretch to convince anyone to remove it from your report. Second the economy and job market for truckers is tough right now. If I have my choice of candidates as a recruiter, HR admin, or company owner and I have 10 applications for each job I am going to wittle those down by safety and job history, their time is valuable and they will invest it in the best candidates on paper. Your best bet is to try and find a small company that is local that you can meet face to face and present yourself over those things in your past. Don't give up, don't look for excuses and own up the things that were under your control.

Let me ask this, if the fueling incident would have never happened would you still want to be with your first company?

What Was Your First/Best Concert

First concert was the Rolling Stones "Steel Wheels" tour in 1989 at the Metrodome, Living Colour was the opening act. I got in line and waited, no online sales, was #3 to buy tickets. Gotta love being 15 and having a lot of free time, we got row 4 tickets for I think $60 a piece.

Pianoman best concert was AC/DC Razors Edge tour in Bloomington MN 1991 at the Met which is now a parking lot at the Mall of America. They played "Money Talks" and the AC/DC dollars dropped from the ceiling in addition to Angus leaving the main stage and getting on a manlift in the audience for a solo. LA guns was the opening act if I remember correctly.

Part Time Trucking?

I work PT with my CDL delivering propane cylinders, but it is a class B license and a straight truck. If you have no experience driving large vehicles doing it PT is not adviseable because you will have very little experience to draw on when the driving gets difficult(traffic, weather, tight spaces). If you are interested in getting your CDL do it but make it a full time job until you get some experience under your belt. I found my job by searching indeed. Another thing to consider with a PT job it will likely involve more physical labor outside of the truck.
