Nobody will hire me after termination. Should I give up on trucking?

Devildog, have you looked into any farms nearby? With harvest starting they are always in need of drivers. Another route is construction but they will be winding down in the next couple of months.

Safety Termination...?

Rich,

There a a few up hill battles you are going to have to fight. Yes your first employer terminated you for a safety violation and likely put it on your DAC. You can dispute this but it will be an stretch to convince anyone to remove it from your report. Second the economy and job market for truckers is tough right now. If I have my choice of candidates as a recruiter, HR admin, or company owner and I have 10 applications for each job I am going to wittle those down by safety and job history, their time is valuable and they will invest it in the best candidates on paper. Your best bet is to try and find a small company that is local that you can meet face to face and present yourself over those things in your past. Don't give up, don't look for excuses and own up the things that were under your control.

Let me ask this, if the fueling incident would have never happened would you still want to be with your first company?

What Was Your First/Best Concert

First concert was the Rolling Stones "Steel Wheels" tour in 1989 at the Metrodome, Living Colour was the opening act. I got in line and waited, no online sales, was #3 to buy tickets. Gotta love being 15 and having a lot of free time, we got row 4 tickets for I think $60 a piece.

Pianoman best concert was AC/DC Razors Edge tour in Bloomington MN 1991 at the Met which is now a parking lot at the Mall of America. They played "Money Talks" and the AC/DC dollars dropped from the ceiling in addition to Angus leaving the main stage and getting on a manlift in the audience for a solo. LA guns was the opening act if I remember correctly.

Part Time Trucking?

I work PT with my CDL delivering propane cylinders, but it is a class B license and a straight truck. If you have no experience driving large vehicles doing it PT is not adviseable because you will have very little experience to draw on when the driving gets difficult(traffic, weather, tight spaces). If you are interested in getting your CDL do it but make it a full time job until you get some experience under your belt. I found my job by searching indeed. Another thing to consider with a PT job it will likely involve more physical labor outside of the truck.

Trivia Game (just for fun)

Bruce, Tom Selleck was my 1st choice too! He was also in Friends as Monica's boyfriend.

Second choice would be Richard Dawson for Hogan's Heroes and Family Feud.

Starting over with trucking

Jayson welcome! Congrats on stopping the smoking, keep up the good work. Let me ask you some questions to try and help.

Truck driving is rewarding but part of trucking is having a backup to the backup. With the smoking like the others have advised the timeline to start probably will need some adjusting.

Is driving a semi truck what you want to do, or is it a path to restart? The reason I ask is because like construction if you don't like it you won't be happy.

Can you go month to month on your lease until you have a job offer from a company willing to train you?

Why only Prime, why limit yourself to only one option? There are numerous companies that train to hire, don't eliminate your options, investigate them.
