2022 Operation Road Check

What a difference between the states. Texas has been very aggressive. Crossed over into Louisiana and I see no law enforcement presence at all. I'll get the sample Arkansas and Tennessee tomorrow.

Got my airline ticket and my first days hotel room....I depart on July 1st @ 12:30 pm outta LAX 13 hours to a 3 hr lay-over in Seoul, Korea. Then 4 hour flight, to land on July 3rd @ 1 a.m. @ Cebu/Mactan airport

Just couple things to do, to have everything needed, to depart without issue....Antigen neg. test, travel insur. And an exit, throw away ticket to Singapore, since I bought a 1 way ticket. Have to have those last things, or they won't let ya even board the flight.

Just gotta play their stupid game, better than them šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚

Thoughts After My First Week Solo

I saw this thread. How are you doing mountain? I'm actually heading out for a month. I told my DM I wanted to run out west. I like that better!

Ended up getting sick and in the hospital last week. Sent me home after an ER visit but I had to stay off for a week. This is my first day back and I am absolutely wiped. That stuff I had is no joke

Hope you're hanging in there and still enjoying yourself.

2022 Operation Road Check

Not sweating this. Just being prepared. Oh and running the back roads. Ran empty past a scalehouse today. All full with inspectors looking at trucks in ways I have never seen before. Looked busy. Thankfully this outfit is good with keeping up the equipment

Mixed Feelings on Helping

G Town. Can you help me slide the spread axle on my trailer? I've been trying for months and the damn thing won't move.

This hereā€¦

ā€¦happened to me when I saw a driver on the scale in a tiny TS in DE running a 53ā€™ dry van with the tandems set all the way to rear. He was headed southā€¦ this setting is not legal on the East Coast.

His total gross weight? 45,000lbs. Heā€™d ā€œscaleā€ legal no matter where his tandems were set. He picked up the trailer from a shipper and didnā€™t want or know how to move his tandems. I tried to explain the ramifications if he hit an open scale running like thisā€¦ didnā€™t register to him. Said he wasnā€™t in Cali (no sh__) Offered to help him move the tandemsā€¦ not interested.

I walked away, waved and wished him luck. Whatever.

Good on you for helping.

I like to help also and often do help newer drivers that ask me for help in person or call me with questions. BUT if you ask me for help and then want to argue for 30 minutes or donā€™t want to take my advice and put in the work you can go **** yourself.

Mixed Feelings on Helping

I really don't mind trying to help. I am not going to enable. Help though. Sure thing. It is a duty to society. Just wish more people had that thought. Seems we are competitive to an extreme today and willing to throw one another under the bus. I like it when you see the connection being made by someone. It is a cool thing.

As for the OP. Who knows? You may have let that guy vent enough to prevent him from being distracted and driving. He might have felt a little better, recollected his thoughts and focused on what he needed after you were done. You'll never know. Busy lives, busy times and all you can do is hope you did the right thing.

Painful at times. Hell to the yes. I was in a helping profession. There were days I felt drained after work. Depleted.

Hair test

Hair follicle tests can kiss my A$$. That being said most of the big players seem to be in love with the idea. Better to plan on them doing it and be surprised if they don't.

I am going to get righteously stoned out of my mind once I retire. Not the least bit ashamed to say so and if some ******bag doesn't like it........well tough. In the meantime......DOT says it is a no no so I will leave it be.

Best of luck to you as you go forward in your career.

Should I be concerned if I never drove a 10 speed but got my CDL A in a 6 speed?

Glad you got hired.

I was going to make a joke and tell you that you only need six gears anyhow if you aren't loaded. We trained on them in school. Wasn't terribly difficult. You'll pick it up really quickly. Me......loving the automatic most of the time. Especially on hills.

Diverticulitis

Left lower quadrant pain. Nausea. Typical stuff for that diagnosis. I've diagnosed it clinically many times. Wasn't hard to narrow things down and know that I needed some kind of treatment.

I'll have to be more careful to control the things I can and avoid a flare. Important to stay hydrated for starters. Flatbedding world.....easy to get on the dry side of things during the summer.

What are your symptoms?

Diverticulitis

Really sorry to hear that. I've dealt with it in the clinic and in ER when people have flares. It hurts.

This one was a little different though. No autoimmune stuff. I think it was self inflicted from dehydration and constipation. Going to have to change things up a little when I roll next week.

Summer is here and securement in the heat adds a layer of challenges that caught me a bit by surprise.

I have Crohns and Ulcerative Colitis and it wasn't the most fun thing to experience in the beginning. With routine tests and medication it is somewhat controllable. I have had 1 surgery for a diseased section of small intestine from it and weight loss of 50 lbs. in a month's time twice but I have lived with it for over 40 years. Medicine, diet, exercise and testing and hopefully you will be able to tolerate it. Good luck.
