CB radio advice

Just a few pointers. As far as I can tell there are not any no-drill mount kits for the Kenworth trucks. So you will be stuck with the factory mounts. Walcott Radio does have a kit that looks like you would need to drill into the mirror arm to mount. They also have a good selection of radios, antennas, coax cables, and all kinds of other accessories.

All pure CB radios use 4 watts of power. You will not get much more range then a few miles. A good antenna and 18' coax cable with a low SWR tuned antenna is your best affordable option just starting out. Lower then 2 is good, 3+ you run the risk of severely damaging your radio when transmitting. SWR issues can be caused from not properly grounding or bad antenna mounting location or too short antenna. Google CB shops in your area and take it in to be looked at. On a little side note if your SWR is that high.. do not talk on it, that high will fry the radio. Receiving won't hurt it at all.

Truckload rates ‘tumbling’ in Q2

Just looking at the tender rejection rate percentage has me concerned. From 20% down to 3% means the market is really getting tight. Already freight at my job is tight and last week the upper management had to have discussions with fleet leaders taking each others loads for their driver boards, its getting cut throat. Too many drivers for not enough freight. I am a shift driver and we are having road drivers taking our local hauls away from us. I have not had a backhaul from Atlanta in weeks, Its been one load down and empty back. Normally on 3 loads a day to sometimes just 1.

Waiting a little bit

Truck driving can be a very stressful occupation and its not for everyone. With the current downturn in the trucking industry, you may have shot yourself in the foot. I hope there will be a place for you when the economy rebounds. I would suggest going back through a company sponsored CDL-A training refresher program. Your license will be stale by that time and the training will do you good.

Company sponsored training programs are a good way to get a CDL for many people. For some it might be a local technical college or independent driving school. They train you to pass the test. All the veterans here will agree that once you get your CDL-A, the real training begins. Not all training is equal and there is no industry standard on how to train. Each of the mega carriers have their own way of training drivers once they actually have their CDL-A. Some are fast paced and ram it down your throat. Some have incremental steps to go through before given the keys. It is important to research all the companies and how they train before deciding which to go with.

Is this job offer suspicious or predatory?

I completely agree with PackRat. You are new to the industry and now your real training is just in front of you. A small job like that has no training program and more then likely runs off the spot market entirely. Broker loads is no way to make any money in the tight years and that is exactly where the industry currently is. Also, stay away from any company that pays IRS form 1099. They don't have workman's comp insurance and do not pay employer wage taxes to the government. They expect you to cover their tax burdens. Look toward the larger companies that have training programs. You will have tough competition for employment, but it is the best way to go forward currently in the trucking industry.

Fifth wheel grease

When I worked for a previous company, I used to keep a 1gal metal paint can with grease in it. Bought the 1 gal can from home depot and cut out a small piece out of the lid and used a small 4" paint roller to apply grease. Just roll it on as needed and the can staying in my right side box where I stored all my tools. Be careful not to over grease as the extra grease can get shoved into the mechanical workings in the jaws cause them to stick or not completely close. I know some even prefer a 5th wheel lube like Lucas 5th wheel lube My new company we have the mounted Teflon pads and just inspect before hooking and after dropping a trailer.

Buying a truck to pull an rv

Hi Guys. I drive a 2016 F350 dually with a 6.7 diesel pulling a 20000 lb fifth wheel rv. Average 7.5 mg Going up steep grades slows the truck down to 35 mph. I am looking at buying a 2018 cascadia with a dd15 automatic and 247 differential it will come tamdon and I will single it remove the rear axle. with 650000 miles for $ 47000 what do you think.

Don't see any real problems. Just make sure you have them remove the commercial 5th wheel and have it replaced with an RV model. Then you should be able to register it as an RV., check with your state DMV. You will might need to label the truck as "Not For Hire" or as "RV". You will need to take your states Air brakes test for that endorsement. In my state you would need a class F license.

Hope this helps.

Manless warehouse ideas

Nestle Purina in Hartwell GA has an automated warehouse with a rail system and shelving installed. Pallets of cat food are placed on a robot and it moves it to whatever spot location in the building. They have been trying to get it to work for a year now and all it ever does is jam up and derail inside the automated building. A multi million dollar mess with a ton of space they cannot get to work.

CB Handle

I am Headless Chicken.. when I was a little kid my grandma had a small chicken farm. She would go out and get a fresh chicken and kill it with a hatchet and pluck it by hand and cook it up. I used to laugh my butt off when the headless chickens ran from her. Plus I like to run until my shift ends then crash at the computer when I get home.

Have two accidents on me one in 2021 & a fatality which I was at fault in June of 2022

Am I reading this correctly? He had two very recent accidents and the last one involved an at fault fatality. And he's asking about how to get a job? Dude, your trucking career is over! You should not even be behind the wheel of a automobile. I'm surprised you are not facing criminal charges.

Wow.. all I can say is just Wow..

I witnessed an accident early in my career where 2 cars where road raging and sideswiping each other. One car spun the other out into the oncoming path of a semi-truck resulting in a fatality of the other car driver. That trucker was devastated by the accident and was cleared of any wrong doing. I was there as a witness for the truck driver and was a witness for the ensuing court case. I don't think he ever went back to trucking.
