I spent a week in Jersey yesterday...
Hi Rainy. I hope all is well. I'm in that north Jersey area you speak of. Not quite Jersey City area, but right around Union County. Quite a few freight lanes running right through Linden and northward.

Yup. All comments above being correct. I am from NJ, born and raised on the shore. Patiently awaiting my departure from this northeast madness. I've never been farther south then North Carolina, never farther west than Pennsylvania. I'm looking forward to going OTR.

Big Scott...thank you for mentioning CFI here on TT. I almost threw the towel in regarding a CDL sponsored school that would take me in. Your information regarding CFI has been spot on. I have a ways to go but I'm right behind you. Off to Joplin June 27. I'll see you at the terminal. Coffee on me. Be well.

Hey Daniel. Yeah, I remember those couch nights. Happy wife leads to a happy life, or so I'm told. Divorced now myself.

Paying Dues: Enduring "The Suck"
Hi Tyler. I'm about to head out to school with CFI after being turned down by 10 CDL sponsored programs. I have a felony, was in the joint over a decade straight, home now 9 years, nothing but dead end jobs, and no relief in terms of financial stability. Then I found Trucking Truth about 7 months ago. After being turned down by all of the CDL sponsored programs, I almost gave up. Then I got into an accident driving for a taxi company in April. I thought that was the kiss of death for me. But, a fellow TT member mentioned CFI to me. I applied and was accepted!! I'm off to Joplin next month to start my journey into the trucking business. I'm nervous as heck to be honest. But my attitude and resilience is at 100% everyday. I will make this happen. My point here is that you must endure some uncomfort, disdain, change etc....I to will have a trainer soon enough. I will listen, learn, and ask 1000 questions. You got this Tyler, keep going no matter what. I hope to see your progress in the message boards. Be well.

Thanks G-town. Without trucking truth and the wealth of information here, I wouldn't be half as far as I am now in knowledge alone. Thank you all.
Be well.

Hello to all. First off, went to DMV today and earned my tanker endorsement. Hazmat is already done. I have been studying up on HOS/time management the last few weeks. G-town, Old School, your posts have been spot on regarding HOS, thank you.
Big Scott, I'm right behind you brother. I'm off to CFI in Joplin on June 27 to begin CDL school.

What did you do before becoming a truck driver?
My first job was scrubbing pots in an old kitchen at the Jersey Shore when I was 14. I hung around alot of gas stations growing up, so the older mechanics taught me the trade. Started as a lube/tire man at 16. Delivered pizzas part time at night. At 18 I started my internal tour of NJ let's just say. I worked in the state use wood shop in Rahway State Pen. Came home at 30. Was driving a box truck for an auto salvage yand and delivering pizza at night part time. Also drove for a car/limo service all through NYC for about 2 years. That was fun. Was an Uber driver for over 2 years as well. Then I decided to play to my strengths and start researching truck driving as a career about 1 year ago. And now I'm off to CFI in Joplin, MO on June 27.

Got accepted into CFI school!!
Hello to all,
I just received a call from CFI, I was accepted into school. I'm excited about this opportunity. They have fully considered my past felony and are giving me a shot. After being turned away from 10 different CDL training companies, CFI is giving me a chance. I'm headed out to Missouri in late June to start school.
A big thank you to Brett for creating this site and the High Road CDL series. Also, to all of you that kept me moving straight and true with all of your knowledge and advise. I have only just begun.
I will enter school with a good attitude, ready to study hard and learn. Looks like I'll be entering the rookie ranks very soon. I'm up for the challenge. After 11 years in the box, I can do this.
Be well out there,
Lance

Hey Scott. Been waiting for your update today. Glad to hear all is going well. I've been studying the pre-trip for the past few weeks. Alot to remember, but doable. I talked to Annie today, I'll find out if I'm a go tomorrow afternoon. My fingers are crossed. I've read that I'll have to have my Hazmat within 120 days if I'm accepted into school at CFI? I passed it when I went for my permit. The Hazmat questions were more difficult for me then the rest of the material for my permit. I look forward to reading your posts.
Be well.

Hey Scott. I applied to CFI and will find out Monday if I'm off to training. Odds are looking good. Glad to hear your progressing well. Annie is my recruiter. She's been spot on with everything. Went and got my CDL permit yesterday. Hazmat as well. Passed the first time out. The High Road practice tests helped me immensely!! Be well.
