Driver pay from my perspective

I grossed $87,000 for 2021, I could have easily hit $100k if I stayed on the Walmart account the entire year, but I was OTR first part of 2021, went dedicated but then two months ago I switched to a Kelloggs dedicated for more home time, and it pays significantly less then OTR or the Walmart account.

New driver. Incident on first load. Now fired.

Weird they fired you over something so simple, I’ve worked for Schneider and knew right away the company before you even said which company it was based on how the training went. Did you get your CDL through a private school or did they pay for it?

When I worked there, I had a friend who hit a pickup truck and wasn’t fired, along with backing into two trucks not long after that.

Paper Transport Inc: Hair Follicle Test (a few questions)

double-quotes-start.png

If you fail a preemployment DOT drug screening, it'll greatly ruin your chances of getting hired anywhere without completing SAP, and even then... With no experience, your chances are even lower. With the new ClearingHouse from FMCSA, it makes it much easier for companies to track those who have failed DOT drug screenings from other companies, etc.

Although it's not impossible, your chances will be greatly decreased. Just be ready to hear a lot of no's or no responses from applications you've put in. But hopefully you pass the test, and have no worries moving forward.

Since posting this, I clicked a link here on the forum and the info on that screen said hair tests aren't reported. Perhaps I'm misunderstanding that.

I'm not entirely sure about that, but what I do know is this; even if they sent you home for failing the hair test. When you go to apply to another company, they usually ask if you have ever failed a preemployment drug test, which you are expected to answer honestly since these are federal documents and these companies are generally pretty good at finding out the truth. If you found lying on an application if you are sent home, it will only decrease your chances even more.

When was the last time did you smoke weed? Most companies don't go back that far usually .

My Awful experience with Schneider National as rookie.

My experience with Schneider wasn't always easy going, but it went pretty smoothly for the year I stayed there. My biggest problem was they never got me home for my home time on time, every besides one time. I was always 2-3 days late, because they wouldn't start sending me towards the house until the last minute although I gave them a 2-3 week notice as required. The other problem was, I was never preplanned, I would show up for my delivery, finish up and sometimes wait 1-5 hours for a new preplan, where a hand full of times, was late being picked up, because I was dispatched late. My PTAs were always pretty much on point, I was ready when I said I would be ready. So trip planning and keeping dispatch updated was not the problem with delayed preplans. Other then that, it wasn't that bad.

ADHD & Trucking

Anyone active on here that has been diagnosed with ADHD and still work in the industry? I have a long struggle with ADHD in my personal life, but it has never really affected my professional life. I was diagnosed with ADHD as a child and it went untreated for 15+ years and I'm looking into getting tested again as an adult as it heavily impacts my personal life and I believe treatment can help.

But I've heard some terrible stories about people losing their jobs after getting diagnosed. I cannot risk losing my job, so trying to see if anyone on here has any experience with it.

I already know certain medications aren't allowed federally and of course company to company.

Time For A Change - Local maybe?

Well it has been over a week since I switched to this Kelloggs account, I'm running less miles since I only work about 5 days a week and the way the loads work out, no way I can run more really so expected to make less money but that's okay for now. I didn't get the chance to get by the house this week yet, but last week I got by the house 3 times, and then my two days off. So going pretty good so far.

Anti-Idling Laws are idiotic

There are exceptions to these laws and they aren't really enforced anywhere in the country, besides a few cases here or there. I've idled my truck as needed in 47 lower states(including CA).

APUs cost a lot of money to buy and maintain, so companies don't generally want to buy something unnecessary when the truck can do the same thing but better. My company uses opti idle, where the truck will stop and start as needed to keep the inside of the truck cooled down to a certain temperature.

Plus in my experience, APUs aren't always the better option. The last company I worked for had APUs, but the AC provided by the APU wasn't powerful enough during those very hot days to keep my truck cooled down, so I would be burning up inside the truck. Then since I had an APU, they would complain if I idled the truck more then 5-7% of the time.

Trainer Shortage?

I know during my training with Schneider, my trainer who had something like 24 years of experience was training me and another guy and our OTR part of the training was split for drive time. But since the truck only had two beds, me and the other guy got a hotel room every night.

But due to the nature of our job, finding a parking area with a hotel available isn’t possible everywhere in the country and could limit the amount of miles you can drive in a day, wasting more time the next by being forced to park earlier so you can be somewhere with a hotel that has truck parking or a truck stop with a hotel nearby.

I don’t think the biggest problem is sharing a truck with someone, I think a lot of people don’t want to be trainers for a number of reasons. But I’m sure it could help some people become trainers, but cost the company a lot of unnecessary money for rooms every night for the trainee.

Does Having An APU/EPU Really Matter?

Mikey, I’ve been running a lot in NY state with anti idling laws. They hand out tickets for violations.

So yes, I believe there is much less idling now than 5 years ago. Would you agree?

I’ve idled my truck everywhere across the US, especially NY and CA. Those laws aren’t enforced and usually only apply for certain trucks from my understanding. I’ve idled plenty of times with police around, no problems.
