We pretty much deal with OTR driving. Not sure that this subject has ever been brought up here. Best place to find out is call the companies that do that type of work.
OTR driving normally means you'll be hauling freight to various customers throughout your company's hauling region. It often entails being gone from home for two to three weeks at a time.
That's the thing, though. No one really talks about it even the companies. You can even ask the drivers and they all say the same things. We get paid per load. It's like they're afraid to admit to how much that they do get paid.
Good luck getting anyone to tell you. Years ago, right out of high school, I tried to talk to drivers about their pay and no one would tell me a thing. I even talked to friends that drove and nothing.
I do know that it is a lot like OTR. It is either in you blood or it isn't.
I do know that it ain't easy. Some companies make you up keep you own truck. Change tires, change oil. Even help the mechanics work on it if it broke down. Not for me, for sure.
Keep it safe out there, Joe S.

I appreciate that. I'm just looking at all my options out there in the trucking world. Just wanted to weigh out all my options that are available to me including coal trucks. I do know someone who drove them once. Said that if he kept driving one he would have needed to sign up for welfare and foodstamps, lol. I guess that's why they never say anything is because it's that bad.
Kinda like bein' and Owner Operator
An owner-operator is a driver who either owns or leases the truck they are driving. A self-employed driver.

I was wanting to know if anyone knew anything about coal truck driving. I live in an area that has tons of coal production, which means the need of truck drivers. Since i'm about to go to school in the matter of weeks. I was just curious if anyone knew how much they make, cause it's based on per load. Cause no matter how many times I look it up or ask someone they never can give me the answer i'm looking for.
