Hey Greg, Gypsum Express runs a fine operation with some nice equipment. I used to talk with their drivers when I ran a regular flat-bed. I don't see them anymore since I switched to a dedicated run for SAPA Aluminum.
One of the nice things about sheetrock loads is that they are often times tarped by the same folks that do the loading. Also they will often times be pre-loaded for you so that it is sort of like a drop and hook situation.
I think it sounds like a great opportunity - be extra cautious when hauling sheetrock - it is really heavy and you can't secure it real tight because the straps will damage the product.
A driver or carrier who transports cargo between regular, prescribed routes. Normally it means a driver will be dedicated to working for one particular customer like Walmart or Home Depot and they will only haul freight for that customer. You'll often hear drivers say something like, "I'm on the Walmart dedicated account."
The Substance Abuse Professional (SAP) is a person who evaluates employees who have violated a DOT drug and alcohol program regulation and makes recommendations concerning education, treatment, follow-up testing, and aftercare.
Drop and hook means the driver will drop one trailer and hook to another one.
In order to speed up the pickup and delivery process a driver may be instructed to drop their empty trailer and hook to one that is already loaded, or drop their loaded trailer and hook to one that is already empty. That way the driver will not have to wait for a trailer to be loaded or unloaded.
Whenever I was pulling sheetrock loads I made a habit of pretending I was pulling a food grade tanker filled with liquid. Every move, whether accelerating, slowing to a stop, or even just taking a turn, was done with measured care and caution.

I appreciate that old school! I have some tanker experience so I know what you mean. I'm really looking forward to working for this company. Feels like a good fit for me.

Greg, I ran into some Gypsum Express drivers down in Savannah, and again when I delivered that load in Nashville. They seemed to be really competent and friendly.
Another thing I like to do on sheetrock loads is put the straps over the tarps, then tighten them just enough to where I feel the strap pushing my free hand against the load under the strap. I don't use edge protectors, the load stays put, and there's no damage to the product. It's a little tip I picked up from a vet down in Acme, Texas, and it works well. Hope it helps, and good luck!

Anyone familiar with Gypsum Express? I have a job offer from them in Carrollton Kentucky to do some flatbed hauling. I think mainly drywall. They promise to have me home every Friday for a 48 hour restart.
