When you "passed" the physical did you get a DOT medical card or was that just for school purposes??? In Canada and the US there are a number of automatic DQ's to obtain or maintain your CDL/Class1/AZ license ...in Canada a stroke prevents you from having any form of license for a period of time until your Dr. clears you...if the school made you pass a physical for their program but its not a DOT medical card that you received I would perhaps think that they were covering their insurance but are not really concerned about you obtaining employment after the fact.... if you have a DOT med card then perhaps its just a company policy that has got ya turned around..

CDL:

Commercial Driver's License (CDL)

A CDL is required to drive any of the following vehicles:

  • Any combination of vehicles with a gross combined weight rating (GCWR) of 26,001 or more pounds, providing the gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of the vehicle being towed is in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any single vehicle with a GVWR of 26,001 or more pounds, or any such vehicle towing another not in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any vehicle, regardless of size, designed to transport 16 or more persons, including the driver.
  • Any vehicle required by federal regulations to be placarded while transporting hazardous materials.

DOT:

Department Of Transportation

A department of the federal executive branch responsible for the national highways and for railroad and airline safety. It also manages Amtrak, the national railroad system, and the Coast Guard.

State and Federal DOT Officers are responsible for commercial vehicle enforcement. "The truck police" you could call them.

Hey, don't sweat it. Just start applying like crazy everywhere else. You'll get plenty of opportunities. The general rule of thumb when it comes to answering questions for hiring is to answer every question honestly but do not volunteer any information they did not specifically ask for. If they want to know if you had a stroke in the past 5 years and it was actually 6 years ago then you answer "no" and go onto the next one. Simple as that.

But you do want to be honest with the questions they ask.
