I moved to Missouri for about 3 months. In that time I changed my license over to Missouri. No problem. Took 15 minutes. Now I come back to Illinois go to get it changed back. Now comes the ignorant bull****! Illinois state won't let you change over without retaking all written and skills tests plus the pretrip. I don't have access to a truck. Haven't driven for a while. It says very plainly in the book that they will wave the skill and pretrip if you are not adding another endorsement but they won't do that! So I checked out a local school. They will let you come in for a refresher course for one week to use their truck. For 1350$! So something that costs 20 bucks in every other state is going to be 1400$ or more by the time it's all done. Almost easier to move back over the river! What a pain in the ass!

That's Illinois for you, you can thank the politicians that sold CDL's in the past for making it harder for everyone now to transfer to Illinois.

CDL:

Commercial Driver's License (CDL)

A CDL is required to drive any of the following vehicles:

  • Any single vehicle with a GVWR of 26,001 or more pounds, or any such vehicle towing another not in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any vehicle, regardless of size, designed to transport 16 or more persons, including the driver.
  • Any vehicle required by federal regulations to be placarded while transporting hazardous materials.

I meant to put past politicians, but even the current aren't much better, but i'll leave it at that.

Just keep your Missouri CDL.

Or try Presto driving school, ask them for price, will not be more than $1000 for 10 hours.

There's actually a law that requires states to accept the skills exams from other states but some states aren't abiding by it yet and obviously Illinois is one of them.

Not sure if this is even relevant, but I was planning on staying in South Carolina and using my friends address and just to transfer my CDL from MO. Only to find out I will have to go through the hopla of establishing my residency in SC again which I cannot do. Then found out Indiana is my only option being My step Mom gets my mail while i'm in MO, and some of the bills are still in my Dad's name, now having to show a current address and a current utility, rent or mortgage payment.
