Often your company will pay you the value of your bus ticket, and you pay the rest for the plane ticket. Check with your recruiter.

This. When we started with Celadon they paid us for the bus tickets, and we rented a car and drove to orientation (we brought all our stuff including a cooler and micro, and there was no way it was going to fit on the greyhound). Between us both the reimbursement for the bus tickets came close to paying for the rental and gas, spent about $30 out of pocket. I did have to laugh when we got charged around $40 extra for the rental car for being under 25. Handle millions of dollars in freight and equipment on a daily basis, but can't be trusted with a $15k sedan.

Glad things worked out for the better, and good luck! You're gonna do great.

If I pay for my own airfare there, do you think they would at least pay for my transport from the airport to their training facility? I might go that route.

I can tell you they will pay .10/mile from your home town to Springfield. It is 1130 miles from my home here in Chesapeake to Springfield and will be paid $113 for my travel or they will provide a bus ticket.

I have opted to drive my personal vehicle so that I will have all my stuff when I get there. Because I am an experienced driver (and have driven for Prime in the past) I just need to go through the 3 days orientation then will be assigned a truck and away I go.

If you fly, they will send a shuttle (or security if it is after hours) to get you from the airport.

In the words of Stewie of family guy. Victory is mine! I think you will find Prime a truly outstanding company. This short year I have been with them has been nothing short of outstanding. My experience has been as long as you put the effort in they will continue to reward you. Hey it couldn't be all that bad if Ernie is coming back HaHa. I hardly ever get to the yard or terminals anymore so if you pass truck 660372 Blue Freightliner give a wave will ya. Congrats now get to work!

Terminal:

A facility where trucking companies operate out of, or their "home base" if you will. A lot of major companies have multiple terminals around the country which usually consist of the main office building, a drop lot for trailers, and sometimes a repair shop and wash facilities.

Glad to hear it worked out.

It's also good to hear the owner was willing to cooperate too. I'm not surprised he didn't know what was going on... quite often when higher ups make visits the lowers know and they make everything pretty while the big wigs are there, but soon as they leave they go back to crappy ways. The big wigs never get a chance to see what's really going on which is one reason why grocery stores have secret shoppers (yes they really do exist, just not the ones you get email spam for). they shop and act like any other customer but in their head they are taking notes of every little thing and they give a report to management because employees will act their best when mamgt is watching and the same goes for them when higher ups are watching but if you don't know someone is watching then your superior will find out just how you REALLY are.
