If you go to a company sponsored school you will need to retake the permit test. If you go to a private school in your state no you wont.
Redgator, some of the state laws have changed, so getting your permit before school, in your home state isn't always correct. It will be different with each school. The best idea, si to ask the school recruiter what they require, so you permit in your state, or do you permit in the state the school is in. Whatever their requirement is will be what you do. There are states now that require you to even have a physical address to go to the schools in their state !!! Weird new laws that are aimed at schools of higher education, id colleges, etc...but since cdl schools fall under that category now, its their requirement too. So check with your school...they will steer you right. And also ask them about all the endorsements you want to get. Do you take them in your home state, or the state of the school.

If I get my CDL permit in one state (ie. CA) and then find that I am accepted to a business sponsored school in another state (ie. TX), is the Permit I have from the CA still good in TX or do I have to take the test over again in Texas. I am not talking about these above mentioned states specifically, but two different states in general. Thanks. Mark
